A Message from our Principal
Dear Holy Family Catholic School Community,
I hope you are all well and enjoying the last days of summer before the start of school on Monday, August 17. We are busy here on campus preparing for the arrival of your beautiful children – we can’t wait to see them!
I want to share a few changes that are happening at HFCS:
Staffing changes:
Please wish Mrs. Anna Brittain well as she continues her teaching career at the Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts.
We are very happy to welcome Mrs. Alice Pritchard as our middle school language arts teacher! She has 16 years experience in teaching english language arts, as well as being the english department chair, at both the high school and middle school levels. Mrs. Pritchard will be our 6th grade homeroom teacher.
Sister Teresa Vu, OP has returned to Houston. We welcome Sister Immaculata Nguyen, OP who will be teaching 4-8 religion and will be our 7th grade homeroom teacher.
Mrs. Brenda Conway is changing her HFCS role from teaching 4th grade to being our distance learning support teacher. Miss Brittany Grady will be our new 4th grade teacher; she is coming to us from Our Lady of Victory where she was also teaching 4th grade.
Miss Meg Ruhter has left us to go to our parish, Holy Family Catholic Church, as the Coordinator of Youth Ministry.
Grade Level/Subject changes:
Mrs. Mia Cook will be teaching a combined PK3 and PK4 class with the help of Mrs. Karen Fitzsimons in the morning, and Mrs. Michele Hankings in the afternoon during enrichment time. The combined PK3-PK4 class is being capped at 16 students. The PK3 and PK4 students will receive large group and small group instruction that is specific to each grade level.
We are not offering Spanish this year due to budget restrictions caused by lower enrollment numbers.
Band is still being offered to 5th-8th graders. The students will not be able to play their instruments in school due to safety protocol; Ms. Bernal will teach music theory in school and the 5th-8th students will practice their instruments at home. Due to safety precautions we will not be offering beginning band to 4th graders. Be on the look out for a detailed letter from Ms. Bernal that will contain more information about band.
The 4th graders will be taking music class with Mrs. Anita Hurst, our elementary/intermediate music teacher.
After much discussion last year about combining the 5th and 6th grade classes, we will now have to separate the 5th and 6th grades this year because of the 6ft social distancing safety protocol. Rearranging the classrooms, removing extraneous furniture and measuring desk separations, has been a mathematical puzzle! We found that our smallest classroom, the science lab, is the perfect fit for our 5th grade class, and the art room will be transformed into the 6th grade homeroom.
Thank you so much for your patience these last few months as we worked through distance learning together. We are embarking on a new journey this academic year, which will undoubtedly bring some new challenges our way – I know that we, as a community of faith, will meet these challenges with skill and grace!
Blessings,
Ann Walters
