Roselawn Round Up
Weekly Newsletter for Roselawn Families November 30th, 2020
I hope everybody had a wonderful week and found time to enjoy family and friends. We have had a very different school year and I want to thank all the families attending virtually and in person at Roselawn. Each group has its own set of obstacles to navigate and during the first trimester, everybody tackled these obstacles with great determination.
We look forward to another trimester of working together to make this school year the best it can be.
Enjoy the week ahead!

Virtual Students and Quarantined Students
This year has presented schools, families, and children with many challenges. We are so proud of how our families and our staff have adapted to many changes. We have some families who have chosen to learn from home, others face-to-face, and some children who are asked to be quarantined based on being a close contact.
Our staff has been asked to support face-to-face and virtual learning. They have done an exceptional job of juggling both. We have learned a lot during this first trimester. We know at any given time, a student could be face-to-face one day and then virtual the next. Our system is becoming very fluid with these transitions and our teachers are doing a wonderful job with synchronous learning (live instruction).
As a result of tight schedules and our teachers offering live instruction, we found that the virtual circles that were offered for kindergarten thru 2nd grade (10:00-10:15) and 3rd thru 5th grade (9:30-9:45) conflict with some of the live instruction happening in our building. We are not going to offer the virtual circles starting on Monday, November 30th. Instead, the expectation for our virtual children is to concentrate fully on their classroom work and attending virtually whenever possible. Attendance for virtual children will be based on one of the three actions below:
- The student being present for live instruction/meetings.
- The student's daily work turned in on the digital platform.
- The student's written/oral communication between the teacher and the student.
- If any of the above occurs before 3:30 PM, then the student can be considered present.
- If the student is ill and not able to attend virtually from home, please email the classroom teacher and we will record that as a parent excused absence.
Please let Mr. Kowalksi or Mr. Nelson know if you have any questions. Thank you!
Picture Re-Take Day is December 3rd
This is a just reminder that picture retake day is scheduled for Thursday, December 3rd. Students will be called down to have their picture re-taken if they want to have another option from earlier in the year.
We will do a school messenger reminder on Wednesday night to remind families as well.
Staying Safe and Healthy
This school year has bought many challenges, however, our students and staff have done a great job adapting. As we start a new trimester we continue many of the same safety measures we have had in place the entire school year:
- With the state mask mandate extended until January, all students and staff will continue to be required to wear masks properly during the school day.
- We will continue to implement the cohort model. This model has only students interacting with other students in the same classroom.
- Music and Art will continue to be offered virtually to students throughout the day.
- On an alternating basis, grade levels will continue to eat in their classrooms to help keep the numbers in the cafeteria low enough to enforce social distancing.
We want to thank our students in advance as we continue our reopening plan into trimester two.
1st Trimester Celebration
On Friday, November 20th, we had a PBIS school-wide celebration. During the celebration, our students were able to play bingo. All of our students in school participated, as well as many of our virtual students. We had a lot of fun playing bingo and Mr. Kowalski's turkey costume added to this exciting time. All students won a prize.
Thank you for a great first trimester. We look forward to accomplishing many more great things during this next trimester.
