PTO Fun Run
We are excited to announce that our PTO Fun Run will take place April 6th. This opportunity is a fun way for our students to exercise, show spirit for one another, and for our community to support our PTOs primary fundraiser. It is through this funding that our PTO is able to provide House Shirts for all students, pay for assemblies, and support instruction. Look for more information soon about how to support your student, our school and our PTO.
Take Home Science Learning
During the week of March 20th, each of our students will begin hands-on science learning opportunities. In the past, Schools use to have Science Fairs to help students conduct experiments and practice the Scientific Method. Last year, Moncure’s staff provided all students with materials to conduct germination (plant/grass growing) experiments at home. This year, we are providing students with an opportunity to choose from 2 or 3 different scientific learning opportunities. To accomplish this task, students will be given various materials to conduct experiments and track changes at home. Our staff has worked very hard to design these opportunities and I ask families to stress that these hands-on experiences are NOT optional. Please ask your learner and remind them to track changes along the way. Look for more information from our classroom teachers soon.
Moncure Multicultural Night
We hope you will mark your calendars to share or celebrate the many cultures that make our Moncure Community special on Wednesday, May 3rd (6:00-7:30)
Look for a participant / contributor sign-up sheet during the first week of April for families who are interested in sharing through food, dancing, games, activities and traditional clothing.
We look forward to celebrating together!
Lost and Found – (Donation Day, Friday, March 31st)
And just like that… Our Lost and Found is FULL again! It’s amazing how many jackets and sweatshirts can accumulate in such a short period of time. As spring approaches, we need for our winter gear to find their way back to your closets. If you believe you have a lost clothing item, please ask your student to take a look. Families are also welcome to drop by the building to look. Unfortunately, to make room for more lost treasures, we need to donate our current lost items at the end of March. We hope you will take a look!
Moncure’s Spring 2023 SOL Schedule
Moncure’s Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grade students will take Virginia’s SOL (Standards of Learning) assessments this spring. The schedule below displays our upcoming testing schedule. To learn more about SOL assessments and how you might support your student, I ask that you mark your calendars for the upcoming April 6th SOL Bear Talk. With approximately 450 students to test, it is important that students are present, fed and well rested for their SOL testing sessions. Thanks for your support!
Rising 6th Grade Parent Information Night – March 23, 2023
The transition to Middle School is a big deal. Sixth graders able to select electives of their choice and students will have to change classrooms to go to Language Arts, Math, Science, and History. For our rising sixth graders and families to learn more, you are invited to attend a parent information night at your future school on Thursday, March 23rd. Please refer to the list of schools and times below for specifics.

PTO Upcoming Events
Moncure’s PTO has a few events in the works that need to be on your calendars. While more information will be distributed in the coming weeks about each of these events, we are excited about each of these events and look forward to having community fun together.

A Note to School - Communication
Plans change and communication makes everything easier. Should you need to report an absence or adjust your BEAR’S dismissal plan, please contact our school. One way to communicate is by completing our “A Note to School” form and sending it through email to our office and your student’s teacher or by simply sending the form or a note to school. To access digital forms of this note, you can go to the parent portion of our webpage or simply use the link below. Thanks for keeping us informed. The earlier the better.
How to communicate with Moncure:
mefrontoffice@staffordschools.net -or- "A Note To School"
Please include in all emails:
Student's Name, Teacher's Name, and your name
Office Dismissal Hours (“No Student Office Dismissals” after 2:30PM)
It is not uncommon for our office and elementary schools across our county to receive multiple emails each day with dismissal changes from parents. The notifications require our office to contact teachers to prevent students from being dismissed incorrectly. Student office dismissals after 2:30PM only add to this confusion. Please understand that our “No Student Office Dismissal” restriction after 2:30PM is based on student safety. Thanks for your understanding!
“Pawsitive” and “Caught Ya” Citations
“Pawsitive” and “Caught Ya” Citations are great ways to recognize students and staff for being awesome! Staff members are responsible for submitting “Pawsitive” Citations for students and students and parents are welcome to submit “Caught Ya” Citations for staff. Check your email for these citations! They are a highlight of our day to send and often a highlight for students and families to receive. They also provide students with an opportunity to earn House points. Everyone wants to be a member of the “House of the Year!” If you would like to recognize one or more of our staff members, simply use this link. “Caught Ya”–Staff Citation Link Thank you so much!
