Parent Update
January 7, 2021
Hello Buhrer Families,
Yesterday's events and attacks on the US Capitol are troubling, saddening and confusing for many of us, including our children. While many of us still have questions and wonderings, so may our kids during class today and throughout week. Earlier today, each school was provided with resources to support our kids with discussions and opportunities for them to discuss their feelings about the events that took place.
Our priority is and will continue to be to ensure the wellbeing of our students and families while creating an environment where students always feel safe. Below you will find resources to help support conversations at home as you begin to identify how the recent events may have impacted your child(ren).
When major events like this take place, especially in a world where images and news are so easily accessible via TV and social media, you may want to consider the following:
- Is it best to have the news or radio on at home while these events are unfolding,
- How can I assure my child(ren) that they are safe,
- What can my child(ren) see and hear while online,
- How can I support my child(ren) by allowing them to ask questions.
At Buhrer Dual Language Academy, we want to promote a culture centered around safety, mutual respect for one another, empathy and an environment where kids feel safe to ask questions. If you have any questions or need additional support, please don't hesitate to reply to this email.
Sincerely,
Ms. Sanchez
Principal
