Salt Water Taffy
By Morgan Hays
Who made it?
Joseph Fraliger popularized the candy by boxing it and selling it.
Why was it made?
The most popular explanation is, a taffy shop owned by David Bradley was flooded in 1883, all the taffy had been soaked in ocean salty water. A young girl came in and asked if he was selling ant taffy. Mr. Bradley jokingly offered her "salt water taffy". After sampling a piece, the young girl proudly purchased the candy and went and showed all of her friends and when people overheard about it they had to try it.
