PRINCIPAL'S NOTE
Happy November!
Hello Asbell Families!
In elementary schools, we love to welcome November. It arrives with cooler temperatures, autumn leaves, and hearts filled with gratitude. Teamwork is our Capturing Kids Hearts focus this month, and we have a lot of fun events happening in the next few weeks. We are looking forward to our Thanksgiving Feast taking place on November 16th. Please join us! There will be a slight adjustment to the lunch schedule to accommodate a crowd. The times are as follows: Pre-K 10:30, Kindergarten Brewer 10:45, Kindergarten Dale 11:00, Kindergarten Newsom 11:15, 1st Grade 12:35, 2nd Grade 11:55, 3rd Grade 11:35, and 4th Grade at 12:15. Use the link here to RSVP and to get more information. We are also looking forward to partnering with the Fayetteville Public Library for the exciting Turkey Giveaway again this year! This event will be at Asbell on November 17th from 1:00-4:00pm. Thanksgiving Break will be here before we know it. Scroll down for a list of all of the events taking place this month.
October was very busy, and we had a lot of fun. We were blown away by the Trunk or Treat event hosted by Christ Church. The turnout was fantastic despite the cold temperatures. If you would like to offer the church a "thank you," we are collecting shout outs to show our gratitude! Please click here to offer a compliment, write a thank you, or share a memory! We will be sure to get the messages to the people who made the event possible.
The school year is well underway now. Families have established great routines of being at school and getting to school on time. Thank you!! As long as your child is healthy, please encourage showing up to class when school is in session. Every day of school is an important opportunity for students to learn as well as connect to peers and their teachers. Attendance matters! Check out the image below for more important information regarding attendance.
As always, it is a great pleasure to serve the students of Asbell. Our teachers and staff work hard to build relationships and push students forward in their personal and academic goals. We are always willing to talk with you about your child's success in school. Please do not hesitate to teach out to us.
Sincerely,
Jamie Baureis
Principal

ENCORE, ENCORE!
Library
In the library, we are beginning to read the books that have been nominated for the Arkansas Diamond Primary Book Award. The students will be able to vote for their favorite next Spring. Third and Fourth grade students are learning how to use our online card catalog to find books and to put books on hold.
PE
In PE we are constantly working to improve children's muscular strength using body weight and 5lb weights, flexibility through yoga, muscular endurance, and cardiovascular endurance through walking, jogging and running. We have been riding bikes in and outside, learning through physical activity large group games, and we have been working to develop motor skills through multiple venues.
Music
We are having tons of fun in music class! Our 4th graders performed their musical, “Down Home in the Arkansas.” We are so proud of their hard work and amazing performances!
1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders have been studying “form” in music. Form is how music is organized and structured. We’ve been doing this through singing games, playing instruments, and movement activities!
Kindergarten is “going to the farm” in music class. Each week we are visited by a new farm animal and we get to explore fun songs and instruments that sound like each animal!
2nd Grade is preparing for their upcoming musical called, “December Nights, December Lights!” Be sure and mark your calendar to come see this amazing performance! December 14, 2023 at 1:45 P.M. in the cafeteria at Asbell.
Art
In Art class this month, fourth grade is wrapping up their Pop Art pieces. Third grade is learning watercolor techniques and will be creating a fall inspired watercolor work. These are currently in progress. Second grade is wrapping up their Yayoi Kusama inspired pumpkins. They learned about different ways to apply paint. First grade has been working on a variety of fall projects. They are currently learning What a still life is and drawing and painting apples. Kindergarten has been working so hard. They practiced cutting and gluing to create pumpkin patches and they created amazing water-colored spider webs complete with 3D spiders!
