Riding the Wave of Excellence!
November 5, 2023
Dear Mission Families,
If you haven't already set your clocks back one hour, please remember to do so. We trust you relished the extra hour of time; it's always a welcome gift!
We have an exciting 4-day week beginning with our PTO meeting this Tuesday , Nov 7 at 5:00pm. Your presence and participation in this event are invaluable as they foster connections among families. Your ideas and contributions play a pivotal role in creating family events that offer students a sense of belonging and community.
Join us for Science Night at Mission on Wednesday, November 8 from 5:30-7:00pm, where we'll be featuring scientific experiments suitable for all ages. We're excited to announce that, thanks to our Community School Grant, we've partnered with the San Diego Fleet Science Center to provide this enriching family learning experience. Additionally, remember to check out our PTO Gear available for purchase. Please note that PTO can only accept cash or checks for these transactions.
Augmentative Alternative Communication Workshop for Parents
This workshop will be provided by our very own Mission staff: Ms. Claudin, Ms. Jimenez, and District Speech Pathologist Lena Medina. Date: Wednesday, November 8 from 5:00-6:30pm in Room 29. If your student uses AAC such as a core board, a speech generating device, or icons to communicate, then this training is for you! It will show practical ways that parents can use these tools at home to support their child's communication. Please bring your child's core board or device with you to the training if possible.
In honor of Veteran's Day, school will be closed this Friday, November 10. We thank our Veterans and their loved ones for their service to our country.
As the holidays approach, many families have travel plans that result in students being out for several days. We encourage you to plan your travel dates during school holidays. If for some reason your student will be out for an extended amount of time, please contact our attendance office so that we can explore the possibility of placing your student in an independent contract. We require a two-week advanced notice to provide your child's teacher sufficient time to prepare educational activities. Our attendance contact information is as follows:

Responsible Use of Technology
We want to emphasize the importance of monitoring and limiting your child's screen time and social media usage. While technology and social media can offer valuable educational and social opportunities, they also have the potential to become a significant distraction and, if not managed carefully, can have negative effects on your child's development. Below are 2 tips of more to come.
TIP Number 1
Set Time Limits: Establish daily or weekly screen time limits based on your child's age and needs. Ensure they have enough time for other activities like homework, physical exercise, and social interactions.
TIP Number 2
Monitor Content: Regularly check the content your child is interacting with, whether it's through apps, games, or social media platforms. Ensure it's age-appropriate and safe.
