Oak Ridge Connection
February 26, 2021
Our Mission:
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents,
We are officially returning to school on Monday. First and foremost, we are very excited to have you back at Oak Ridge. We can't wait to welcome your child back into their classroom and help them to grow and develop. Our staff has worked very hard to prepare for your return. We will no doubt encounter bumps in the road, and we will navigate through them together. We have very supportive community, and it will take some flexibility and collaboration for a smooth transition, but I know it is something we will accomplish together. Enjoy the weekend with your family and we will be ready to go on Monday!
Sincerely,
Dr. Parrott
Welcome Back!
Clear To Go! App Information
As you may recall from the District’s earlier communications, the Royal Oak Schools will begin using a new, user-friendly health and wellness software called Clear To Go!™ for students to complete their daily health screening. Parents/Guardians with children participating in in-person instruction, club/activities and/or athletics will be required to screen daily for COVID-19 symptoms or exposure.
You received an email from Clear Support (Subject: Your child is being asked to screen) for you to set up your child's account. We ask families to set up accounts shortly after receiving the email to ensure students are ready for their first day of in-person instruction.
Please click on this link for step-by-step instructions on how to set up your account once you receive your email. The entire setup process will take less than five minutes.
NOTE: Students who will not be returning for in-person instruction and/or activities will not need to complete a daily health screening and can disregard this email.
If you need support or have questions, please try the following links:https://youtu.be/U3bdz8ENPAM, https://www.royaloakschools.org/district/return-to-school/clear-to-go-app-health-screener or contact the main office at 248-588-8353.

However, we reserve the month of February to be intentional in learning about the many great contributions of African Americans to our country. Please make a effort to dig deeper this month and share with your children. Here are some great resources to assist you:

Free Breakfast and Lunch
FEWER APPLICATIONS EQUAL FEWER FEDERAL DOLLARS
While all Royal Oak Schools students are currently receiving free breakfast and lunch, a benefit which is now approved to continue through the 2020-21 school year, a decline in applications for free and reduced-price lunches could lead to a reduction in school funding -- and ultimately in programming cuts that could affect student learning.
The district is grateful that we can provide meals for every student during these difficult times but very few new applications are coming in. Every child that qualifies for free or reduced meals helps determine federal funding. Did you know the federal government uses the number of applications to determine how much money the district receives in other grant funds? So the money isn't just for food. Fewer applications equal fewer federal dollars for our schools so apply today.
Students will continue to receive free meals through the end of the school year, however, families who may qualify for free or reduced-price meals can help support Royal Oak Schools by submitting an application. The 2020-21 free and reduced-price school meals application is available on the Royal Oak Schools website.

Blessings in a Backpack
In light of the tough economic times facing our area, we are attempting to help Royal Oak Schools families by making sure that all of our children have enough food. “Blessings in a Backpack” is a program designed to provide students on the free and reduced lunch program with enough food for three meals a day during the weekends. This program, sponsored by the Community Foundation of Greater Rochester, is active in Royal Oak Schools. If you agree to take part in this program during the school year, your child will receive a bag filled with food for the weekend. While we are remote, the food will be delivered to your home by volunteers. The simple meals may include food like macaroni and cheese, beef ravioli, canned fruit, granola bars, soups, juice and other items. Virtual and high school children receive bags every other week, PreK-Middle school students will have food delivered weekly to the school.
If you would like to have your child participate in this program, fill out the form below and mail it to the board office at 800 Devillen, Royal Oak, MI 48073, or just hit submit on this form. Please be sure to indicate on the form if you child has any food allergies. If your child has a food allergy, you as the parent are responsible for checking all food labels when the food arrives home. Royal Oak Schools, as well as Blessings in a Backpack, will not be held responsible for any accidental food allergen exposure
