A NOTE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Dear Howard Families,
This will be the last Howard Gram until we return from Spring Break on Monday, April 2nd. I hope all of you enjoy your Spring Break. Hopefully the weather will be a little warmer and you can get outside! When we come back it will be time to get down to business as we prepare to conclude a great school year at Howard Elementary. The second part of ISTEP will be given to the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th graders April 16th-May 4th. I am confident that the results will be indicative of all the hard work your child has done this year with your help and the help of our wonderful staff!
There have been some exciting things going on here at Howard. We had another great Fish Fry. Thank you to everyone who came out and helped to make the night a great success. Our Parent Involvement Committee is in the final stages of planning the next family night. Please mark your calendars for Thursday, April 12th 6:00-7:30. There will be games, gadgets and gardening fun! I am so excited to have you all there. We will have Kindergarten Round-Up on April 12th. This is a great day for students who will be new Hornets next year. They will have an opportunity to see the school, the school bus and meet teachers and staff.
As we end this year, we will be preparing for next year. As part of this preparation, we will be making class lists. This year, we will not be taking teacher requests. Please know that we have your child’s best interest in mind. Please trust that we will make the best decisions to set them up for success for the upcoming school year.
Thank you for all you do!
COUNSELOR'S CORNER
Hello! The last two weeks have been spent in first and second-grade classrooms! In first grade, I read the book "The Invisible Boy." The book is about a boy in first grade who feels like he is invisible and that he has no friends. After we read the story, each student gave an idea of something they could do if they saw a student at Howard Elementary who "invisible."
In second grade I read the students a short story about an elementary class who could not seem to get along. A simple act of kindness changes that! The students performed their own act of kindness to make their classroom a better place!
Have a wonderful weekend! As always, please feel free to call/email me with any questions or concerns.

Pre-K Applications
Applications are now open for eligible families in Howard and Grant counties who are looking to enroll their 4-year-old in pre-K this fall. High-quality, early education has been shown to help close an achievement gap of up to 18 months that is often seen in students who do not attend pre-K or similar early learning programs.
On My Way Pre-K is Indiana’s early learning pilot program, which was established in 2014. It provides low-income, at-risk 4-year-olds with high-quality pre-K opportunities. Last year, legislators supported a law expanding the original program from five counties to 20.
By providing young Hoosier children with more, early education opportunities, we can jumpstart their academic careers and set them on a path for a successful future.
If you are interested in enrolling your child in pre-K, visitwww.OnMyWayPreK.org.
