Summer Reading for Students K-8
Students entering grades K-5 are encouraged to read throughout the summer (which includes time spent listening to an older reader or an audiobook) and participate in the Heights Library Summer School Age Program. Students can record their reading on the Summer Reading Log. Consider using this graphic organizer to guide your thinking while reading. To help your child choose books, a list of suggested titles (grades K-2 and grades 3-5) is available on the CH-UH School District website under the “Academics” tab. Students entering grades K-5 are encouraged to read any material and are not limited to the titles on the provided list. Encourage students to find something that they want to read. If they can read it or listen to it, it counts!
Students entering grades 6-8 are also expected to read during the summer months. Middle school students will select an age appropriate book and consider how the characters or people in their book reflect the International Baccalaureate (IB) Learner Profile attributes. Here are step-by-step directions for students that might be helpful. If you are looking for book suggestions, check out this list of titles. You are also invited to participate in the Heights Library Summer Reading Teen Program, print this bookmark to keep track of your progress and submit it to enter a raffle for great prizes!
