Spring Lake Park High School Seniors and Families:
It’s another unusual spring. Like your friends in the Class of 2020, you are not having a typical senior year experience. As you missed out on some senior year traditions, we’ve felt the losses and disappointments with you. Now, we are working hard to make spring milestone events and experiences possible in as “normal” a way as we can.
In the coming weeks, we will keep you informed with updates like these. In addition, we’ll be building out SpringLakeParkSchools.org/Graduation as your “hub” for information and updates.
This week, here are a few topics we want you to be aware of:
- In-person graduation ceremony – Friday, June 11, 7 p.m., location TBD: We have our graduation date and time firmly set. The ceremony will be Friday, June 11 at 7 p.m. We received guidance from the state on capacity limits for indoor and outdoor events as well as physical distancing requirements – for graduates and guests. This guidance is informing our decision-making on location. We will either be at Mariucci Arena or Panther Stadium. While the stadium is a beloved community tradition, the capacity for guests given current guidelines is quite restrictive and we do not have a good option should it rain. Mariucci Arena provide more tickets for guests and we do not need rain plans. We are awaiting answers to a few questions and anticipate making a decision by the last week in April. In the meantime, hold the date and time.
- Yard signs: Once again, the Panther Foundation will be providing each member of the Class of 2021 with a free yard/window sign. We expect the signs to arrive in early May and will provide information on distribution in our next update.
- Decision Day – May 3: Decision day celebrates the post-secondary plans of our graduating class. We will celebrate May 3 during 4th hour. We’re encouraging students to take a photo with their college/military gear and share where they are headed after high school graduation! We will also have a senior goodie bag for students to take with them. If your child is online or full-time PSEO, they can submit their decision day photo to jblaid@district16.org by May 3, 2021. They may also stop by the high school main office to pick up their goodie bag the week of May 3. Office hours are 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
- Senior Class meeting – April 21: We’ll be having a senior meeting with students to discuss graduation on Wednesday, April 21 at 12:15 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center and through WebEx for our online learners.
We are proud of our seniors and their resilience in navigating these incredible times. We look forward to the celebrations ahead. Watch for these updates every couple of weeks as we share evolving plans for recognizing and celebrating the Class of 2021.
