UN Council Kickoff
On Friday, October 5th, UN Councils kicked off with an International Dot Day celebration. Students connected with each other and focused on the power of words using Peter H. Reynolds, The Word Collector. Students chose a word that spoke to them, whether it represents who they want to be this year or maybe just a word that sparked their curiosities.
Wiley Spirit Week
Global Read Aloud
Pernille Ripp created the Global Read Aloud (GRA) in 2010 with a simple goal in mind; ONE BOOK TO CONNECT THE WORLD. From its humble beginnings, the GRA has grown to make a truly global connection with more than 1,000,000 students having participated.
The premise is simple; during a 6-week period, classes are reading their books and making global connections. Tools such as Skype, Twitter, Google Classrooms, Padlet and Google VR allow classrooms around the world to collaborate. Educators and students are able to continue these connections through the year.

Partnership with Participate
At Wiley, the Asia Society's Global Competency Matrix provides the framework for our learning:
- Investigate the world
- Recognize & weigh perspectives
- Communicate Ideas
- Take Action
Participate provides our staff with research-based global professional development (PD) modules. Teachers are using Participate's Global Citizenship Framework to learn more about global competencies. As a school community, we are studying the attitudes, skill-sets and knowledge needed to be responsible, respectful citizens within our interconnected world.
