A Note from Mrs. Klinsky and Mrs. Cruz
Dear West Families,
This has been a school year like no other and certainly not one like we ever imagined. Together, we learned more than we thought was possible and we did more than we believed conceivable. Thank you for rising to each challenge, embracing every journey with a smile, and most importantly supporting your child(ren) through remote learning.
Even though we concluded the year through remote learning, we are excited to reflect upon the outstanding growth that our students have made since the beginning of the year. We are so very proud of the quality work that the students produced and the gains that they have made. We are so fortunate that West has such high quality staff members who are committed to helping each and every student.
We are also extremely grateful for our outstanding WPO and parent volunteers who have given so much and helped students and staff each and every day. You are truly instrumental in contributing to the wonderful learning that has taken place. Thank you for your continued commitment and involvement in each child’s learning. We cannot thank you enough for all of your time and effort.
With the onset of summer break, we want to remind you how vitally important it is that you keep your children reading throughout the entire summer break. Make it a priority to set aside time for your children to read on a daily basis. Find books that they will love to read and enjoy a family read aloud together! There are so many fun ways to promote the love of reading! We also posted a "Summer Activity Resource Guide" on our website. You may also access it by clicking on this link. https://www.d47.org/cms/lib/IL01904560/Centricity/ModuleInstance/1014/Summer%202020%20Activity%20Resource%20Guide.pdf
Wishing you and your family a fun, healthy, relaxing, family-oriented summer! We will miss you all!
School Supply Lists
The school supply lists for next year have been posted on our website and may be accessed through this link: https://www.d47.org/domain/175
One of the CDC guidelines for reopening schools is not having shared materials. As a result, each grade level will require a plastic container/pencil box. Our supply list has been updated to reflect this change. If, however, you ordered a supply pack, the plastic pencil box was not included in the first, fourth and fifth grade boxes. We will send a reminder in August to those families that they will need to also supply a plastic container/pencil box for their student.
Summer Lunch Program
Starting June 1, a program sponsored by the Northern Illinois Food Bank will provide free boxed lunches to any child in Crystal Lake 18 years of age and younger. The Summer Lunch Program will be offered Monday through Friday (June 1-August 14) from 11am to 1pm at Ladd Park, 521 Coventry Lane in Crystal Lake. In case of rain, lunches will be served at Vineyard Church, 7105 Virginia Road in Crystal Lake (next to the CVS). No registration is required. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, food will be distributed as a drive-up service. In addition, volunteers will follow health department and CDC social distancing guidelines and wear face coverings. Questions about the Crystal Lake Summer Lunch Program can be directed to Kathy Sullivan at 815-861-9893 or sullcl5@aol.com or Mary Fox at 224-858-7415 or foxpax@sbcglobal.net.
Virtual Kindergarten Kickoff
Tuesday, June 2nd
Our Kindergarten Kickoff will look a little different this year due to Remote Learning and the Stay at Home Order. We would still like to give incoming Kindergarten families an opportunity to learn about West School and what Kindergarten will be like. So we have decided to host a Virtual Kindergarten Kickoff.
We are offering two times on June 2nd to accommodate the schedule of our incoming kindergarten parents. These sessions will be done through Zoom. At each session, Mrs. Klinsky and Mrs. Cruz will go over information regarding academics, school logistics, first day, supplies, etc. After the presentation there will be an opportunity to ask questions. In August we will host a New Family Orientation. Most of the information shared will be very similar to what is shared at Kindergarten Kickoff, however, at that time we hope to be back in the building so that we can offer building tours. You are welcome to attend New Family Orientation as well as one of these virtual sessions.
Please see the information below regarding access to the Zoom Sessions.

Pick Up Pass Day
Once again for this coming school year, with safety as our goal, we have created a procedure for picking up students in a vehicle after school that will help to ensure their welfare. If you wish to pick up your children at the end of the day, there will be three options:
3:27 Red dismissal – Pass needed
3:30 Yellow dismissal – Pass needed
3:35 NO PASS NEEDED – Anyone is welcome to pull in and safely pick up their children along the supervised front curb. Many parents choose this convenient option, especially if they don’t have specific after-school activities.
Mark your calendars for PICK UP PASS DAY - Friday, August 7th from 7:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m
Look for more information to be sent out by mail in July.
