OCTOBER 18TH-22ND
· Are you sure that’s the most important thing for you to work on at this time?
· Will that goal help you improve in ________________?
· What’s the hardest part of (math, reading, writing)? Maybe we should work on that.
Then come up with a plan on how you can help them attain their goals. We know that we can't just set a goal but that there's work that goes into meeting that goal. Maybe they need to study basic math facts daily to help build fluency. The possibilities are endless. Our students love to meet their reading AR goals (grades 1-5) and feel so proud of themselves when they do. This can work in other areas as well! Please return signed sheets by this coming Friday, October 29th.
Thank you to all who helped support our students in the Walk/Bike to School Day. Mrs. Gillaspy and the Fuel Up to Play Committee along with some Kearney High School athletes worked with our students to make sure they made it to school safely even though it was the coldest day of the year so far! The kids love meeting our high school helpers!
This Thursday is Fall Picture Retakes so if you missed out on our first day of pictures or want to retake them, this Thursday is the day.
Snack Sales is this Friday. The PTO is asking 4th graders to donate to this healthy snack event. Send a quarter or two (depending on the amount of donations) as the students love to go "shopping" for a snack at school. Thank you in advance for your donations!

We have a PTO meeting this Tuesday at 7:00 PM in the art room. Please read these bylaws prior to October 12th meeting and bring any questions or concerns to the meeting for discussion. Thank you! We hope to see you there.
October 13th we will be having our annual Walk and Bike to School Day. High school athletes and our Kenwood Fuel Up to Play 60 team members will be greeting students near the 11th Ave and 8th Street crosswalks to give walkers and bikers a sticker that will be their ticket into a prize drawing. Students can also be dropped off at the Centennial Park/Pool Parking lot after 7:20. Student-athletes will be there to walk groups of Kenwood students to school. The last group will leave the park at 7:40.
This Thursday marks the end of the first quarter. It's been one of the quickest quarters of the year. Students will not have school this Friday, October 15th. Teachers will be attending professional development training and completing report cards. Report cards will come home next Friday, October 22nd. We ask that you discuss the report card with your child, set some goals for next quarter and routines on how you can achieve those goals. If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher. Contact information is on the bottom of this newsletter.

HYVEE FIT WEEK PICTURES-3RD GRADE MRS. MUNDORF
October 4th-8th
This year we are grateful to have the opportunity to experience field trips. Our fourth graders traveled to UNK for the Health & Fitness Day. Although the day was shortened due to the weather, we continue to be thankful to them as they changed their plans to accommodate many fourth graders. Our kindergartners also got to attend a performance at the Merryman Performing Arts Center at Central Elementary School. They enjoyed listening to Jim Salestrom's performance.
This week we are sponsoring Hyvee Fit Week. Our PE teacher, Mrs. Gillaspy, and our Fuel Up to Play Committee have made posters throughout the school to dedicate each day to incorporate teaching the importance of living a healthy lifestyle and what that means. These are the themes and dress code: Mindful Monday-wear hats, Try-It Tuesday-crazy socks or hair, Wellness Wednesday-dress like a health professional, Team Pride Thursday-wear your favorite team or Kenwood gear, Fitness Friday-dress to exercise. You can also find this information stated below.
Fire Safety Week is this week. Smokey the Bear will visit the kindergarteners and the classroom teachers will share "Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety" video presented by our very own Kearney Volunteer Fire Department.
This week teachers will be completing SAEBRS surveys on each individual student. This is our Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener. The purpose is to assess for student risk in social, emotional, and behavioral problems. School success is predicated not just upon academic achievement, but also within multiple interrelated behavioral domains.
Every year we send out a Trusted Adult Survey to students in grades 2 through 5. The survey asks each student to identify at least one adult in the building that they feel is a good go-to person for them should they ever be faced with a problem or need someone to talk to. We want to make sure that everyone has a connection in our school. This is completed twice a year, once in the fall and the other in late winter.
Two Rivers will be providing flu shots at Kenwood this Friday. See the below information if you are interested as paperwork will need to be provided ahead of time.
