Technology Spotlight

Why is student voice and choice so important? Being able to make choices is motivating for the students. It gives them a say in the learning process. The idea of letting the students direct the learning while the teacher facilitates can be a scary leap; however, you have the ability to start small. Let the students choose HOW they show their understanding to you. It's a great first step and the students really love it.

Ms. Simeone (@MalibuES) uses Google Classroom regularly and recently she posted their latest assignment: Mineral Project. Their directions were to choose a format and create their project. Students loved this idea and thanked Ms. Simeone for the opportunity to work like this. Projects started rolling in in multiple formats including Google Slides, Google Draw, and Google Docs. Students were incredibly creative and diverse in their projects!
