Math
The students did very well in our ratio unit. The problem solving and application work was awesome. Be sure to see your child's reflection on this unit in his/her portfolio this week.
We will be building fluency in long division and in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in our next unit of study. We will also be focusing on our mathematical practice of being precise. To be precise means to complete work accurately and in a timely manner.
On Wednesday, we worked in the computer lab to refresh our knowledge of place value to start our unit. Students could view lessons and practice skills at their own levels to work toward a strong mastery of this building block material.
Science
We have been busy with our study of the states of matter and how matter changes from one state to another. Each student has received a message in his/her gmail with links that include information, diagrams, songs, videos, and quizzes regarding matter. We are now applying that learning to create PowerPoint presentations. We will send these home via gmail accounts when they are complete. As students are working on these PowerPoint presentations we are continually assessing our understanding and depth of knowledge. A summative assessment will take place on Wednesday, November 13th.
