Message From The Principal

This week, we transitioned into the 2nd semester. The only new semester hiccup we encountered was having to adjust the lunch schedule for a few classes in order to alleviate some minor overcrowding in A lunch, other than this, it was business as usual. Students and teachers jumped into the curriculum, and our school is humming with the energy that you might see mid-semester.

I always like to take this time as we start a new semester, to encourage parents to be sure to review your child’s course syllabi, talk with them about their teachers and courses, and reach out to their teachers if you encounter problems. Teachers should always be the first point of contact regarding concerns. While we seek to nurture independence and self-advocacy throughout a student’s progression in high school, we are still here to provide a team approach to supporting students when they struggle.

I sincerely hope that your child has an excellent experience this semester.

Fort Mill High School Cares Fundraising Blitz

Fort Mill High School will hold the 2nd Annual Fort Mill High School Cares: Fundraising Blitz to support two great causes on Wednesday, February 5th. Funds collected during the fundraising blitz will be divided evenly between St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital and the 2020 Polar Plunge benefiting local Special Olympics.

At the start of 2nd block on February 5th, all teachers will collect donations for the blitz. As an incentive for raising money for the students, if we raise $2,000 members of the administration will be taped to the flag poles during student dismissal. If we really exceed that goal and raise $6,000 or more, Mr. Scroggs will shave his head.

So please consider donating to the FMHS Cares Fundraising Blitz to support St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the Special Olympics. All checks should be made payable to FMHS.

Dual Credit Night

Our school is pleased to announce the addition of several new dual credit classes beginning next year (2020-2021). Students enrolled in dual credit courses receive both high school credits and college credits from the articulating university partner: University of South Carolina-Lancaster (USCL).

The new offerings include Criminal Justice/Sociology, French, Spanish, and Theatre. These courses will be offered on our campus and taught by our teachers. Students can sign up to request these classes through the counseling office. We will hold an informational Dual Credit Night for interested parents and students on Thursday, February 6th at 6:30 pm in F112.

Dual credit courses will be taught in one semester with students receiving 3 hours of college credit and 1 high school credit per course. Each college course will last 8 weeks with students taking 2 per semester. A USCL placement exam is necessary for approval to take French and Spanish courses.

AP Honor Roll

Another year and another recognition of the achievement of our AP program. For the 4th consecutive year, the FMSD has been placed on the National AP Honor Roll. AP Honor Roll districts simultaneously increased access to Advanced Placement (AP) coursework while maintaining or increasing the percentage of students earning scores of 3 or higher on AP Exams. Our district is one of only 3 school districts in the state of South Carolina, and one of 250 districts in total from the United States and Canada to receive this prestigious designation.

We recognized that this is a reflection of the hard work of our exceptionally talented students and the support of their families. I continue to be extremely proud of the quality work done by our AP instructors, as well as that of all the teachers that prepare the way by building our students' knowledge base, instilling a competitive work ethic within them, and motiving them to always push the pace academically.

Congratulations to the entire Yellow Jacket Universe on this achievement!
