FOURTH GRADE NEWS

Welcome to Fourth Grade
We have had another wonderful week! The students are doing a great job with transitions between classes, lunch, recess, and specials. We have had a full week of curriculum, and your children have stayed right with us. They are making us very proud!
Technology
Apps to download on a your child's tablet for use at school: Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Drive, Google Classroom, Discovery Education, and a QR Code Reader
Language Arts/Social Studies
Next week, our students will continue to work with the genre of realistic fiction. Our focus will be identifying the characteristics and story structure that makes up realistic fiction. In writing students will be able to identify the organizational framework of expository writing, as well as review and locate the subject and predicate of a sentence.
Math
Unit Targets:
*Name and represent numbers to the billions place
*Understand decimal place value: tenths and hundredths
*Write fractions as decimals and decimals as fractions
Unit vocabulary: decimals, tenths, hundredths, millions, ten millions, hundred millions, billions
The Unit 1 test is scheduled for Friday, September 15.
Science
Students are continuing to practice using scientific processes, methods, and tools to answer scientific questions. Students are using science notebooks to collect their thoughts, observations, and data in meaningful ways. Next week our class will explore why scientists create claims that are supported with evidence and reasoning.
Unit Vocabulary: claim, evidence, investigation, inference, measure, data, model, prediction, hypothesis, variable

- Monday, September 18th from 10:00-11:00 in the library will be a workshop for parents focusing on Social Emotional Health.

- SPARKLE Store will open tomorrow morning! Sparkles are an incentive that we give to our students throughout the day. These sparkles may be used on Fridays to buy privileges in the Sparkle Store. The Sparkle Store is open from 7:30-7:45 a.m. You will find a link below for what your students may buy with their sparkles.
