Next week we are on Spring Break! There will be NO S'more next Friday. May you enjoy the break and get some much needed rest. Here's to hoping the weather cooperates!

Buddy Bags for Winton Hills

As part of our "One Author One School" program, the students at Maple Dale and their families donated items for "Spring Break Care Kits" for our sister school, Winton Hills Academy. Yesterday, students from Maple Dale loaded a truck with all 400 care kits. The kits were delivered to Winton Hills Academy and unloaded by students there. Mrs. Reinke and Mrs. Daley were there to capture the moment and take a tour of this impressive school. Principal Ben Fulton and the students at Winton Hills were so appreciative of the care of the Maple Dale kids! Special thanks to Mrs. Cindy Carey, Mrs. Karin Daley, and the wonderful dedicated parents who helped us along the way with this meaningful project!

Student Information Sheet for 2017-2018 School Year

The staff at Maple Dale Elementary makes every attempt to place all children in a classroom that meets their learning needs. This form is optional for parents and supplements the information given to us from your child’s teacher. You may fill out any or all parts of this form. Please return to the office in an envelope via “kid mail” by 4/7/17. In an effort to maintain balanced classrooms, requests for specific teachers are not considered. Thank you!

Student Information Sheet

Although your child may or may not have taken the CogAT in December, you may request that your child be tested on the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT). If you wish to have your child participate in this round of testing, all requests must be made through the below online link by April 16, 2017. In order to decrease disruption to your child's instruction, this testing opportunity will take place prior to the start of the school day. We have scheduled this 45-50 minute testing session to be administered from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Maple Dale.

Please note that it is the parents' responsibility to provide transportation the morning of testing to your child’s building. Additionally, know that Sycamore cannot use kindergarten or first grade scores for gifted placement.

A Note from Our Nurse

Thank you for washing and returning recently borrowed clothing items to the clinic. We'd like to keep a steady supply in order to never have to bother parents at work for a change of clothes.

The clinic is also in need of lightly worn or new boys shoes sizes 13, 1-5. We can also use a couple of extra coats boys and girls sizes Small 7/8, Medium 10/12 and Large 14/16. Thank you!

Maple Dale Milers

The Maple Dale Milers team has linked up with the Cincinnati Flying Pig Kids’ Marathon! Any Miler who achieves 25 miles by the Flying Pig Marathon weekend will have the opportunity to run their 26th mile through the “Finish Swine” of the Flying Pig on Saturday, May 6, 2017. Another option is the Tri State Running Company 5K. Registration is required.

Walking/running miles to reach 25 miles for this event can be earned outside of Milers.

HOW: The Milers Team keeps track of how many miles each Miler achieves during Miler Wednesdays. Each student is responsible for making up any additional miles needed to reach the 25-mile goal. Hog Logs are available through the Flying Pig website. See Registration details below.

WHEN: 26th Mile Saturday, May 6 - 12:00pm

5K Saturday, May 6 - 10:00am

WHERE: Site of the Flying Pig Marathon – Cincinnati’s Riverfront

WHY: It will be so much fun! And…each registered participant will get a finishers’ shirt, a marathon medal and all the goodies of the finish celebration!

Registration is $15 for the 26th Mile and $40 youth for the 5K & should be completed by a parent/guardian online at by April 23rd.

When given the option, select Maple Dale as your school/group.

Each child NEEDS an adult race buddy! 1:1 While the Flying Pig encourages guardians to register, if you do not, you can still walk/ run with your child but you will not receive a t-shirt.

RACE DAY: On race day, we will meet as a group on Joe Nuxal Way under a flag that will say “Maple Dale.” The group will be wearing our Maple Dale shirts so that we are easy to find.

Camp Invention is coming to Sycamore Community School District!

Since 1990, Camp Invention has taken summer fun and transformed it from ordinary to extraordinary!

In partnership with the National Inventors Hall of Fame, Edwin H. Greene Intermediate School is pleased to offer the nationally-acclaimed Camp Invention program to children entering grades 1st-6th. It’s an exciting, weeklong summer adventure with lessons that explore connections between science, technology, engineering and innovation. Children will work together to seek solutions to real-world problems and sharpen critical 21st century learning skills while rotating through several fascinating modules. The week begins on June 5, 2017 with Chris Gutermuth serving as Director of the Launch program!

Here is how young innovators will be spending their time:

  • Engaging creative thinking to design and build their own duct tape creations

  • Experiencing the power of rocket science by building and launching rubber band rockets

  • Exploring aerodynamics to blast water rockets made from plastic bottles more than 50 feet in the air

  • Taking apart nonworking machines and devices to investigate their inner operations

All activities give participants the opportunity to explore, discover and achieve while having fun!

Local educators will facilitate program modules and enthusiastic high school students will serve as Leadership Interns ensuring that one program team member is in place for every eight children.
