October 2023
Principal's Monthly Message
Hello Eagle Families,
It has been my sincere pleasure to meet so many of our families, chat with you, and engage in a variety of ways over the past 2 months. What an AWESOME community to be a part of!
October offers so much for our Eagles and our greater community. We continue to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month and add Bullying Prevention and Awareness Month. I can't go with out mentioning Red Ribbon Week, Parent Teacher Conferences, Family Math Nights, and our fabulous Trunk or Treat, just to name a few of the events taking place this month.
Parents, we need your help in limiting disruptions to the instructional time occurring in each of our classrooms. Please help your child prepare, in advance, to leave the house with everything they need (backpack, lunch, jacket, water bottle, etc.). If anything is dropped off for a student, it will be held in the office and the teacher will be emailed to let the student know to come claim their item during recess or lunch. In addition, we discourage providing your student with food from outside companies during the school day as it creates additional complications on campus (students want to share, which is against school policy; teasing, gloating, etc.).
We continue to work on prioritizing attendance, as it can have a significant impact on a student's social development as well as their academic progress.
I encourage you to participate with us in any way you can: volunteer, help PTO, support our school by showing up to community events, chat with me, your child's teacher, or any other staff member you come in contact with. We are so happy to have each and every one of you as part of our larger EAGLE COMMUNITY!
SOARing with Eagle Pride,
~Mrs. Marich
To SOAR, Be Here More!
Attendance Campaign
We appreciate your partnership in having your student(s) at school, on time, each and every day! A couple of reminders to help in this mission:
- Breakfast in the MPR is offered daily beginning at 7:30
- Students need to be on-campus and through the gate by the warning bell at 7:58 in order to be with their class, entering the classroom when school starts at 8:00 am.
Students are being recognized for their attendance and encouraged to Be Here, each and every day! Some recognition includes:
- Weekly recognition to the classes with the highest attendance rate
- Weekly drawings for students who had perfect attendance during the prior week
- Attendance Surprise Days - students present on these unannounced days get to participate in fun activities
We MISS YOU when you are not here and you MISS OUT when you are absent!
Math at Home
Family Math Nights
Our District Math TOSA's have been hard at work preparing 2 evenings of fun math activities, games, and learning. Many of the games and activities can be played at home long after the Math Night has ended. We look forward to seeing you there!
Numeracy at Home for Primary Students
Numberblocks is a step-by-step learning journey grouped neatly into five color-coded levels. Each level introduces ever greater numbers and a sequence of key topics and skills that help your child build natural number sense and a solid foundation of mathematical understanding.
Numberblocks uses best-practice visual teaching techniques aligned to the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) framework and KS1 curriculum, and mathematics curricula from around the world. We work closely with the NCETM (National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics) to ensure that every episode contributes to a confident and rounded understanding of essential mathematical ideas.
Check out this resource to use at home and grow confident mathemeticians!
Math Challenge!
Get Ready to MATH at home! www.gregtangmath.com is offering a gameboard for each grade level with different games and activities to complete on the site. The games help solidify base ten understanding and fluency at every grade level. Have FUN!
i-Ready Math
i-Ready offers each student the opportunity to practice and learn EXACTLY what they need. Students are recommended to spend at least 45 minutes each week working on their MyPath lessons and working to pass as many lessons as possible. These lessons should be completed independently by the student; resist the temptation to "help" them complete lessons because the series of lessons are built upon how a student does on prior learning.
Bullying Prevention and Awareness Month
From the desk of Ms. Rodriguez...
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. What does that mean for us Eagles? It means it is the perfect time to celebrate our differences, unite, and stand up against bullying and hate. More than 1 in every 5 students report being bullied across the U.S. This includes physical bullying, spreading rumors, cyber bullying, or social bullying. Here at Mountain View we can make a difference by showing kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. How can we do this? Well, it can be as simple as inviting someone to sit next to you or greeting a student who is alone. Or it can be as bold as sticking up for a student who is being mistreated or separating yourself from others who are being unkind. Bullying can cause students to feel lonely, afraid, and/or unworthy. Students who are bullied may feel unsafe and may not want to come to school. MVS should be a place for every student to feel safe, worthy, and included. Let’s take a pledge to support others who have been hurt, treat others with kindness, be more accepting of others, and help include those who are left out. Together we can be Eagles Against Bullying!

National Hispanic Heritage Month
Hispanic Heritage Month takes place September 15 to October 15 every year as a time to recognize and celebrate the many contributions, diverse cultures, and extensive histories of the American Latino community. We are looking forward to learning and celebrating together.
