Weekly Newsletter
This week, I'd like to highlight English Language Arts and Drama teacher, Ms. Renee Fegan. Ms. Fegan grew up in Oceanside and attended and graduated from Oceanside High School. She then went on and received a double major in Theatre and English at the University of Redlands. She went on to join the teacher credentialing program and eventually obtained her Masters in Education: Curriculum and Instruction. She has taught theatre on and off for about ten years, taking breaks to live in Ireland for a few years and raise her three children who are now teens.
Renee is ecstatic to be back in her hometown and teaching at ECHS. She absolutely loves the students and the culture here and is excited to continue the long history of theatre at ECHS and create a strong and robust program that highlights student talents. She also works for New Village Arts Theatre as a teaching artist and front of house manager and is hoping to make more partnerships and connections between the ECHS drama department and the community.
If you missed our Drama program's performance of Romeo & Juliet this past weekend, please stay turned for their next performance. You won't be disappointed!!
Veterans Day - No School, Friday, November 11, 2022
On Friday, November 11, there will be no school in observance of Veterans Day. Veterans Day pays tribute to all American veterans—living or dead—but especially gives thanks to living veterans who served their country honorably during war or peacetime.
This Thursday, November 10, El Camino will honor several Veterans. For 26 years straight, ECHS held this program to honor Veterans. We have hosted Veterans from World War II as well as the Korean War and the Vietnam War. With the onset of Covid, we had to stop hosting the program, but this year, we are excited to bring the program back to ECHS which honors our veterans while helping our students gain first-hand knowledge of the experiences of many of our veterans and the sacrifice they made for our freedom and this country.
This year, we especially recognize and honor our neighbors - the Camp Pendleton Marines! Our guest speaker, Amy Forsythe, is an award-winning military journalist who served five combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan in addition to several other overseas assignments. Her book, Heroes Live Here: A Tribute to Camp Pendleton Marines Since 9/11, contains more than 150 full-color images and beautifully designed graphic illustrations depicting Camp Pendleton Marines involvement in combat operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Thank you to all who have served and continue to serve our country!

It's Cold & Flu Season!
Cold and flu season is upon us. Health officials are warning there may be high levels of influenza compared to the past two years, when COVID-19 precautions helped keep flu infections low. As a reminder, please do not send your child to school if they are feeling sick or experiencing symptoms of a virus. Keeping your sick child home will be a great benefit for the health and wellness of our students and staff.
The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness. You can click on this link to find prevention tips from the CDC.
