Scholarship Information
Due to the time crunch provided by Florence, Mrs. Brown needs you to email her immediately (no later than Monday, Oct 8th) letting her know if you are interested in being nominated for the Park Scholarship for NCSU or Morehead-Cain Scholarship for UNC along with a resume' and a personal statement of how you fit the criteria listed. Both are considered full ride scholarships. Please look up former recipients to see what kind of students fit this. Leadership and Service fit quite well along with character. Morehead-Cain has a physical component which means participation in sports.
NCSU and UNC will require early decision which has been extended a week or so. You must have applied to the college in addition to completing the application for the scholarship if chosen. You may also self-nominate if you are not chosen as one of the recommended nominees from RHS.

NCSU PARK SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: (RHS NOMINATES 2
Scholarship: Park Scholars earn excellent grades in the most challenging courses available. They are intellectually curious students who think critically and seek learning experiences outside the classroom.
Leadership: Park Scholars demonstrate leadership, either in formal roles such as team captain or student body president, or informally by excelling in competitive or creative endeavors. They listen well, lead by example, take risks and champion original ideas.
Service: Park Scholars dedicate themselves to making a positive difference in the lives of others. They find public service personally rewarding, and they participate in service activities on a regular basis.
Character: Park Scholars set positive examples for others and have the courage to do what is right, even when they are in the minority. They demonstrate the highest levels of integrity, honesty and conscientiousness.
MOREHEAD-CAIN SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: (RHS NOMINATES 3)
Scholarship: It isn’t the high-achieving student we seek so much as the scholar-the one for whom knowledge is about more than grades and test scores, and for whom learning is an appetite rather than a means to an end.
Leadership: It’s more than titles held or roles played. Here, leadership demonstrates courage and action. Morehead-Cain’s initiate. They act and they impact. They influence and they inspire.
Moral Force of Character: Integrity, empathy, bravery, humility, maturity, generosity: these form the bedrock of the Morehead-Cain culture.
Physical Vigor: It’s as simple as a demonstrated commitment to an active lifestyle and a dedication to fitness and physical activity.
