Permenter Longhorn Check-In
Week of August 22 - 26, 2022
Message from the Principal
Overall, our first week of school was a success. Thank you for your patience as we fine tuned our processes this first week. As we look to week 2 of this school year, we are moving toward increased accountability academically and with our social choices.
Permenter Longhorn Pride encompasses a number of things: student achievement is one of them. Official ratings have been released and there is much work to be done. I believe we have the staff to move our scholars forward. However, we can not do it without the cooperation of our scholars and partnership with families.
We have high standards for our scholars and we will need to lean on a positive home, school, and community partnership to execute our district theme of #TogetherWeThrive.
Some reminders & resources:
- If you have a question or concern about your scholar, please follow up with their assistant principal. Mrs. Dawn is the 6th grade assistant principal and has 8th graders with last names A-L. Mr. Linthecum is the 7th grade assistant principal and has 8th graders with last names M-Z.
- Please don't forget about our PTSA membership drive (see information below).
- If you have intentions on your scholar(s) participating in school sports, please see an important message from Coach Umo below.
- CHISD Dress Code
- CHISD Student Code of Conduct
Faithfully,
Mrs. Lemons
New Start and End Times
We worked on transitions this first week of school, but will start counting tardies beginning this week. For those new to middle school, please know that students are expected to be on time to each class period throughout the day. Lateness to classes will count as a tardy so following our specific bell schedule and moving through the halls with Positive Purpose is important. If a scholar is not careful, they could accumulate up to 8 tardies per day so moving with a Positive Purpose is paramount.
Student Code of Conduct, IDs, Dress Code and Cell Phone Expectations
We will follow the CHISD Code of Conduct and encourage families to review it thoroughly with your scholar(s).
- All scholars are to wear school-issued identification at all times on a lanyard.
- Families may purchase their own lanyards outside of school if they prefer as long as it doesn't violate any dress code standards.
- Staff and security should not have to ask a scholar for their ID as it should be visible on a lanyard: not in pockets, backpacks, belt loops, tucked in their hoodies, etc.
- The first school ID and lanyard were provided free. Replacements are provided for a fee.
- School IDs and lanyards were provided the first week of school.
- All scholars are expected to arrive and remain in dress code at all times. This includes adherence to the standard of no sagging pants. Please reinforce this at home and when in doubt, have them wear a belt or some other apparatus that will prevent sagging.
- Cell phones can be a distraction and are not to be used during the school day without permission. Please call the front office if there is important information you need to be relayed to your scholar.
Lunch Reminders for 2022-2023
There is no longer universal lunch for all. Scholars must now pay for lunches if they do not receive free or reduced price lunch. We encourage everyone to complete the lunch application listed below.
- Universal breakfast for all
- Lunch Application for all
- My Payments Plus for Lunch Payments

Arrival, Dismissal and Walker Concern
For the safety of our scholars, we are using a staggered dismissal system this year. Scholars will be dismissed by their mode of transportation home as well as in order of the arrival of school buses in the bus loading area.
If your scholar is a walker in the afternoons, please encourage them to walk home immediately. We have a great number of scholars who are choosing to follow their own will and attempt to congregate on campus. This loitering is providing fertile ground for disruptive and unsafe conduct. Because #TogetherWeThrive, also encourage your scholar(s) to follow instructions of staff and security and leave the premises immediately. If you need a time check for accountability, all walkers are typically released between 4:20-4:22. Thus, your scholar should be leaving the campus by that time. They have no excuses as we've fine tuned our dismissal.

Permenter PTSA Corner
WELCOME!!! Welcome back to all of our new scholars, families, and returning family! My name is Landon Caldwell and I'm the president of the Permenter PTA. As the school year kicks into gear, we are incredibly excited for what it holds in store. The past few years have presented unique and unprecedented pitfalls that we had to get creative to overcome. By pulling together and staying positive, we were able to make the year a huge success. I anticipate even bigger and better things for this school year.
Please look at our calendar for key dates and events to stay aware of and watch out for more emails and information as we send it out. This year will see a renewed focus on community and collaboration. Every chance we have to work with our families and community partners will be a fun time and a worthwhile way to stay involved. If you haven't joined yet, (why not?), follow the link provided to get your Longhorn Bundle, or feel free to reach out to me or get connected to PTSA and follow us. We need YOU for the PTA! Together Everyone Achieves More. TEAM work makes the dream work.
I look forward to making our dreams work.
