A Message from Superintendent Dr. Shawn Olson ~ 11/19/2021
This fall, I’ve been visiting our schools and am seeing first-hand the excitement and creativity taking place in our classrooms. Our community is full of dedicated individuals who are committed to ensuring our students receive the best educational opportunities while attending our schools. It is truly a privilege to be a part of Kirby School District 140.
I want to call your attention to a calendar oversight regarding Winter Break. This year, D140’s Winter Break will begin with a Half Day on Tuesday, December 21. Elementary schools will be dismissed at 11:10 am and middle schools will be dismissed at 12 noon.
This is a change from the original calendar that was released to families at the beginning of the year. Please note, D140’s Winter Break will begin with a half-day on Tuesday, December 21 and run through Wednesday, January 5. Classes will resume on Thursday, January 6 for students. Staff will return to buildings on Wednesday, January 5 for professional development.
P/T Conferences and Fall Break
As a reminder, Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held in all KSD 140 elementary and middle schools on Monday, November 22 from 1-8 p.m. and Tuesday, November 23 from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. Conferences offer an opportunity to establish a cooperative home-school partnership with the common goal of helping your student learn and feel successful. These one-to-one meetings are a great way for you to ask questions and review your student's academic, social, and behavioral progress in school. Students are welcome and encouraged to attend.
During Fall Break, there is NO SCHOOL Monday, November 22 through Friday, November 26. School resumes on Monday, November 29.
With the Thanksgiving holiday fast approaching, I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the staff, parents, and community members who enthusiastically contribute so much to our District. We are so appreciative of your support.
On behalf of Kirby School District 140 and the Board of Education, I would like to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy!
Dr. Shawn M. Olson
Parent/Teacher Conferences - November 22 and 23
November is National Native American Heritage Month
National Native American Heritage Month acknowledges the history, heritage, traditions, and contemporary way of life of American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians (AI/AN/NH). During November, D140 students and staff explored the heritage, culture, and experience of indigenous peoples both historically and in American life today. We gratefully acknowledge the unique contributions made by the first Americans for the growth and establishment of the United States.
