Remembering 9/11
At 8:46 on September 11, 2001, 19 terrorists hijacked four airplanes and carried out attacks against targets in the United States. Two of the planes were flown into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. Almost 3,000 people were killed during the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
While this was one of the most tragic days in US history it triggered a time of unity and resilience within our country. Over 300 first responders died helping others during the event, 1000s of people all over the country donated blood to help victims, and people across the world raised money to help those that had lost loved ones in the attacks. As noted by President Obama during a 9/11 Anniversary speech, “it's important for us to realize that, as terrible as that day was, it brought America together and it reminded us that we're all one people."
I wish everyone a wonderful weekend!

Chromebook Roll Out - A small setback
We had planned to do the rest of grade 8 and grade seven on Tuesday, September 18th and grade 6 on Thursday, September 20th. Unfortunately, the distributors did not get the Chromebooks formatted for the full roll out dates next week. Therefore, we are pushing back our roll out by one week. Grade 8 Blue and Gold and all of grade 7 will receive their Chromebook on Tuesday, September 25th and grade 6 will receive their Chromebooks on Thursday, September 27th. While we are definitely disappointed in the wait time, we still have all of our Chromebook carts and I know teachers and students have been doing many interactive activities online already.
Don;t forget to send the user agreements signed and back into school. We cannot give your student a Chromebook until we receive this signed agreement. We will also have copies of the agreement in Portuguese, Spanish, and French available next week.
In next week's newsletter I will talk more about how the Chromebook will be used in school and at home. Below is the link to the NPS deployment resources web page:

Notes from the Nurse
Attention 7th Grade Parents:
All seventh graders must have updated physicals and proof of Tdap immunization by October 12. Physicals dated September 2017 or later are acceptable. If you are unsure of whether you have handed this in, please call the nurse's office at 781-440-5926 or email tsperber@norwood.k12.ma.us. Providing this documentation is a Massachusetts law; please call with any questions. You can have your doctor's office fax the physical directly to 781-769-4458, the dedicated nurse fax line.
Attention 6th grade parents:
Dental clinic forms were sent home with your child this week. Dr. Stone will be offering all sixth graders dental screens at CMS on Sept 21 and Sept 26. If you do not want your child to participate in this free service, please return the opt-out form before Sept 21. Please call or email the nurses with any questions.
