# Mrs. Schleicher's Schmooze

## Weekly Note from Mrs. Schleicher

What a week! From the Lion King performance, to baking hamantaschen, to the Purim festivities, and finally to selling our awesome baked goods at the Second Grade Bake Sale for our Food Bank Mitzvah Project we all agree that this was an awesome (and busy) week of school! Thanks so much to Laura Schilling, Randi Steuer, and Janine Peck for helping our class make the delicious hamantaschen! Thank you Randi, for also making the dough for us! I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

Shabbat Shalom!! Stacy

## Language Arts

This week for vocabulary, we moved on to Lesson 12. Our test will be next Tuesday. In grammar we learned about when to use has, have, and had. We are doing an awesome job with cursive! We did fun Purim themed centers including picking a Purim themed journal prompt where we either wrote about which Purim character we would dress up as and why or we wrote a funny story about something that happened while we were baking hamentaschen. Also, we sequenced the steps to making hamentaschen and glued them on our own paper hamentaschen (see Josh G. and Sharla's to the right). Also, we played a fun game on the Ipad called Whack-A-Haman where we had to use a gragger to whack a certain amount of pop up Hamans and then answered questions about Purim!

## Math

In math this week we learned about straight, right, acute and obtuse angles. We did different learning activities such as using popsicle sticks to make and label the angles, learning hand motions to help us remember the differences, and doing a cut and paste sort. We also started learning about symmetry and we sorted letters and shapes into a chart to show if they were symmetrical or not.

## Social Studies

We finished our third unit in Social Studies: Using our Resources this week. We made note cards with the important vocabulary from the unit and studied in partners. We also reviewed with our favorite digital game: Kahoot! The students did a really nice job taking their first open note test! Next week we move back into Science as we start learning about Habitats!

## Hebrew

We concluded the Purim unit with a great Purim carnival and worked on our holiday worksheets.

We continued with ARIOT and worked on the letter פ, ף (PEY and FAY)

These are the 4 mitzvahs (commandments) for PURIM- challenge your child to do all four:

2. Exchanging gifts of food מִשְׁלוֹחַ מָנוֹת

3. Giving Tzedakah to the poor צְדָקָה

4. Having a Purim feast סְעוּדַת פּוּרִים
