Alternatives to Fear Based Parenting
You know that feeling you get in the pit of your stomach whenever you see someone engaging in a risky activity?
They could be riding a motorcycle too fast or simply washing windows on a really tall building.
Becoming a parent can make you much more cautious.
A fear-based parenting approach can radiate anxiety and doubt for a child. It can sound like:
If my child fails this exam, they won’t do well in school.
If my child gives up, they will become a quitter for life.
Instead, we should focus on parenting with calmness and confidence and encourage our children to take risks safely.
This newsletter offers an infographic for Alternatives to Fear-Based Parenting.
Family Activity
Have a Cookout or Bonfire
Before the weather takes a turn, enjoy the outside with a bonfire or a cookout!
Get some wood, charcoal, or fire up the grill and cook dinner over the fire. And don’t forget the s’mores!
Sitting by the fire in the dark can be a great time to just sit and talk (and listen) with your teens, and let them invite their friends to enjoy the fun!
