The Juliano Journal

Week of February 8-12

Dear Families,

Happy Friday! The students had so much fun at the Valentine's Day party this morning. Thank you to all of the parents who contributed to the success of this party by planning awesome games and activities, sending in food, and sending in supplies. Our parties would not be as fun if we didn't have your wonderful help!

The West Fun Fair will be held on Saturday, March 5th. This is always a fun event that the kids look forward to. Each classroom is responsible for creating a themed basket that will be raffled off at the fair. This year our classroom theme is Snack Attack. If you have any snack items that you would like to donate to our basket, please send them to school with your child. Thank you!

Have a great three-day weekend! :)

Curriculum News

Language Arts

This week we studied immigration. We read and discussed why people immigrate to the United States, the process of immigrating to the United States, and what life is like for immigrants once they become a part of our country. Students then brainstormed questions they would ask an immigrant.

Next week the students will use the questions they brainstormed to conduct an interview with an immigrant. A note was sent home today explaining this process. If you are having trouble finding an adult for your child to interview either in person or on the phone, please let me know and I will assist them in finding someone to interview.

Math

This week we concluded our on unit on Geometry. Thank you for continuing to help your child complete Home Links, prepare for assessments, and practice multiplication facts at home. Your support is invaluable!

Next week we will spend time discussing fractions. We touched on fractions for a bit during our unit on place value, but our focus next week will be on using fractions to name parts of a whole.

Science

This week we continued our study of water. Students observed what happens when water turns to ice. Through an experiment, students learned that water expands and turns solid when it freezes.

Next week the students will take a quiz on hot and cold water. A review sheet will be sent home to help the students prepare for this quiz.
