Celebrating the Close of the School Year
May 25, 2023
Notes from Your Administrative Team
Dear May Whitney Families,
As the academic year draws to a close, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on our journey together and express our heartfelt appreciation for your unwavering support and dedication throughout the school year.
It feels like just yesterday when we welcomed our incredible students and their families into the halls of May Whitney, ready to embark on a new year of learning and growth. Now, as we approach the last day of school tomorrow, it is with great pride and and endearment that we look back on the many achievements and fond memories we have created together.
Our students have demonstrated exceptional resilience, adaptability, and a thirst for knowledge. They have shown us what it means to be compassionate, empathetic, and inclusive members of our school community. We are confident that the skills they have acquired and the values they have embraced will serve them well in the future.
We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to our exceptional faculty and staff members, whose dedication, creativity, and tireless efforts have made this school year possible. Your commitment to providing a nurturing and stimulating environment for our students is truly commendable, and we are so grateful for your unwavering commitment to their success.
To our supportive parents and guardians, thank you for entrusting us with the education and well-being of your children. Your collaboration, involvement, and partnership have been invaluable throughout the year. Your ongoing support at home has been instrumental in reinforcing the skills and knowledge gained in the classroom academically, behaviorally, and social emotionally.
As we bid farewell to our fifth grade students, who are moving on to new adventures in middle school, we would like to offer our congratulations on reaching this milestone. You have grown not only academically but also personally, and we are confident that you will continue to excel and make us proud. Remember, the lessons you have learned here will stay with you forever, and you will always have a place in our hearts.
To all of our returning students next year, we are so very excited for you to meet your new principal and assistant principal. We absolutely know that they will love you as much as we do! We are excited for the opportunity to continue nurturing your curiosity, supporting your dreams, and witnessing your ongoing growth. Next year will no doubt be exciting and filled with new challenges and opportunities that will expand your horizons and further shape your character.
Holding back our tears, we want to express our deepest appreciation to the entire May Whitney community for making this academic year a remarkable one. We are immensely proud of each and every one of you, and so grateful for the privilege of being part of this incredible journey.
Wishing you all a safe, joyful, and rejuvenating summer vacation filled with laughter, cherished moments, and unforgettable adventures. May you return refreshed and eager to embark on another remarkable year.
Yours in service,
Mrs. Kopinski, Mr. Bild, Mrs. Kanoon and Dr. Zarr

Field Day Memories 2023
We were absolutely thrilled with May Whitney Field Day 2023. Our staff worked hard to plan a memorable day for all of our students. Thank you to this year's Field Day planning committee comprised of Michayla Leber, Kristin Johnson, Annette LaVine, Stacey Elliott, Kara Cardell, Angie Powers, and Morgan Figel. Their detailed planning was flawless, and executed by an army of parent volunteers who we can not thank enough! The kids loved their t-shirts, and the sun shined as brightly as the hundreds of smiles witnessed all day.

May Whitney Yearbook Delay in Arrival
We regret to inform you that there will be a delay in distributing yearbooks. The yearbooks arrived with additions that were not previewed or approved. As a result, they were sent back to the company for reprinting. When the corrected yearbooks are received, we will communicate a plan for distribution. We appreciate your patience.
Summer Information for IPads
As we complete the 2022-23 school year and look forward to next, we want to provide you with some helpful information about your student’s District issued iPad.
Students will keep their iPads over the summer and will return to school in the Fall.
Students going into 1st, 5th, 9th, and 10th, will receive replacement iPads this summer, future communications will include distribution days and a signup form.
Incoming Kindergarten students will receive iPads after school begins.
Current year student learning resources (Dreambox, Lexia, MyOn, etc…) will remain available through the end of July.
iPads that are stored over the summer should be shutdown with power between 20% and 80%, do not store with a completely full or completely discharged battery.
Special's Schedules for School Year 23-24
In an effort to keep our daily schedule more consistent and predictable for students and staff, next year we will switch back to a Monday through Friday specials (Art, Music, PE, and Library) schedule. Homeroom classes will be assigned their specials classes based on the day of the week, and we will no longer utilize the ABCDE days. We recognize that there are more days off on Mondays, so periodically throughout the school year, we will run a “Monday” schedule on a Tuesday or a Wednesday. This will balance all students in getting equitable class times with their specials teachers. The following adjustments will be made for the 2023-2024 school year:
Tuesday, September 5 - Monday Schedule
Tuesday, October 10 - Monday Schedule
Tuesday, February 20 - Monday Schedule
Wednesday, January 17 - Monday Schedule
For early release days, we will work to adjust schedules to balance mornings and afternoons to the best of our ability. This means we will have different early release day schedules. Any schedule adjustments will be communicated well in advance. We look forward to providing this level of predictability and consistency to our students next year, while still maintaining an equitable experience. Please reach out to your building principal if you have any questions.
