JROTC Service Learning Project

Beech Grove High School JROTC conducted their first service learning project on September 28. The service learning project was a blood drive with the American Red Cross. The JROTC Cadets were given the task of organizing, getting commitments from donors and running the blood drive. This effort was led by the Battalion Executive Officer Cadet Major Hannah Howard and Special Project Officer Cadet 1st Lieutenant Raven Shipley assisted by the rest of the cadet staff and several other cadets. The project was a great success with the collection of 60 pints of blood. These 60 pints of blood can save up to 180 lives. GREAT JOB, CADETS!! We're Hornet Proud!

Did You Know?

The BG Softball Association is holding a "Purse Bingo" fundraiser (see information listed below in the "Community Events and Programs" section) on October 21. All of the money raised will be put back into the affiliation/school!! Misti Mack, our BGCS Transportation Director, and also a softball mom and part of the softball association, states "Our Middle School fields were horrible, any amount of rain we’d have to canceled games/practices due to un-level fields so we’d have large amounts of standing water! We currently are re-doing the Northwest field and the Southeast field as they were the worst, and hope in a year or two we can do the other two fields! After getting playable fields, our next goal is to re-do all the dugouts so all of our Hornets have a sense of pride while playing on them!!

A few photos are pictured below of the "before" condition of the fields and of the progress on correcting the field conditions.

Days 1 and 2 of the new fields....

More photos will be shared as additional progress is made!

Send Us Your Hornet Highlights!

We know there are many, many positive stories about Beech Grove City Schools involving our students, teachers, staff, and programs that we don't always hear. If you have a positive story to share, please send the details to Melody Stevens, Community Relations/Communications Director, at mstevens@bgcs.k12.in.us. We also encourage you to send stories that include personal achievements of your child such as: attaining the rank of Eagle Scout, performing in a community play, earning Girl Scout badges, serving as a volunteer in a non-profit organization, etc., etc. You might just see your story in a future edition of the "Hornet Blast" or in one of our local south side newspapers. We want to celebrate our Hornets!
