Principal's Message
Welcome February! Woohoo! It's the month of love and friendship! As we enter into February, this is the month to take a good look at where our kids are at.
MAP Mid-Year:
You should be analyzing how much your students have grown in map and use the data to work with your students to level them up.
Running Records: We know that fifth grade had a deadline of January 31st to test their students for the running records. This is because our students are the first ones to test on STAAR. Kinder-4th grade has until February 12th to test everyone on their informal running records. Use this data to have a positive conversation with parents during mid year conferences and GPCs about their child's growth.
Release STAAR Assessments: For fourth and fifth grade, you are scheduled to take your assessments on February 10th and 11th. Use your backward lesson design to shore up anything you need to tackle for kids for this coming week.
Action Item: As we go into February, start reflecting on these 3 key areas of literacy.
1) Classroom Libraries- I have received requests for additional level books. Please consult with Priscilla who can support you as we have a plethora of unused books in the guided reading library. If your kids are not using the checked out books any longer, please turn these in so others can use them.
2) Read Alouds
3) Record Keeping
By this point, each classroom should have a vivacious connection to literacy and books. Review the Spring Staff Development offered by the District and select choice session to attain your personal goals. We will be doing a school wide instructional round within the next couple of weeks to give individual feedback to teacher's during your Reading/Writing Workshop time.
This coming week, we also partake in the All-In District TCRWP Trainings and most grade levels will be sending someone to participate.
Tuesday: K- Guykens and 3rd-Mendoza
Wednesday: 1st-Molina
Thursday: 2nd- Hudman
Friday: 3-5th & MCL: Dortch, Vargas, Denson & Green.
May you enjoy this beautiful week with love, learning, and joy for sharing the light you were gifted.
Wildcat Love and respect,
Rachel Martinez
