Starlab Planetarium Program Coming to Mays!
Mays Chapel has been selected to host the Starlab Planetarium Program from September 17 - 28. This is an incredible experience for our students. The technology allows students to see the night sky throughout the entire year. The program revolves around the inflatable dome and a delicate projection system which projects the sky. This program also supports the BCPS Science Curricula.
Several measures have been taken to ensure the Starlab is a safe learning environment for students and staff:
- All students and staff must wear masks while inside the dome.
- Students will have assigned seating to assist with contact tracing if necessary.
A HEPA filter, which includes an ultraviolet light, neutralizes airborne particles within the dome. Air is exchanged and circulated at a rate higher than in classrooms.
A room-sized ultraviolet light will be used at the end of the day to disinfect all surfaces inside the dome.
With these measures in place, both Health and Environmental Services have approved the Starlab program to work at full capacity. However, if you would prefer your child NOT participate in the STAR Lab Program for any reason, please send an email to your child's teacher. An alternate activity will be designed for your child.

Volunteer Oportunities at Mays Chapel
Greetings Mays Chapel Community,
Thanks to everyone for your help and total engagement in ensuring that we've gotten off to a smooth start this school year. Please know that we value your partnership and want to continue that connection with you all year. An important part of that partnership includes volunteering. In order to volunteer in any capacity in a BCPS school that involves interaction with students, BCPS policy requires the completion of a volunteer application and training each year. This year there are two trainings to complete, the Volunteer Orientation AND the Coronavirus Prevention Principles training. All training information is available on-line. The directions for training completion and the application are attached for your convenience at this link:
https://cos.bcps.org/departments/communications/family_and_community_engagement/b_c_p_s_volunteers
If you are unable to access the on-line application and/or training access is available at school and your local libraries. Hard copies of this information will also be available upon request in the office and at Back-to-School Night on Tuesday, September 14th (PreK-2) and Tuesday, September 21st (3rd-5th grade) from 6-7:30pm. As a reminder, volunteers need to be approved at least 7 days before starting their volunteer assignment this includes field trips. Should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to our volunteer coordinator, Mr. Jason Rubin, School Counselor at jrubin@bcps.org or 443.809.9847.
Sincerely,
Jason Rubin
