Berea-Midpark Middle School will be hosting our final Student Led Conferences on Thursday, February 20th. The conferences will take place from 3:45pm until 7:15pm in your child’s classroom at a designated time chosen by you.
In preparation for the Student Led Conferences, I would like to take the opportunity to provide you with information regarding why we will be taking on this format, things to know about the conference and what to do during the conference. They are as follows:
Reasons for Student Led Conferences:
Student Led Conferences provide an opportunity for you to hear firsthand about the progress your son or daughter is making.
Student Led Conferences allow the student to be the focus/center of the conference.
Student Led Conferences promote the idea that students “own” their work, raising the accountability level.
Student-Led Conferences eliminate waiting in long lines and allow more flexibility.
Things to Know About the Student Led Conference:
Allow for one half hour of time to attend the conference.
Every student is required to participate in Student Led Conferences.
The student is the presenter and speaker throughout the conference.
Teachers will be present, but will not be apart of the conference dialogue.
Student Led Conferences allows families to have quality time together discussing academic progress and school.
Things to Do During the Conference:
Let your son or daughter lead the conference. Listen as they explain. They have spent a lot of time and effort preparing their work for you.
Encourage your student. Provide specific praise, comments and compliments.
Ask follow up questions like, “What part of this assignment/class was challenging for you? Why? What did you learn from this assignment? How can I help you with your goals?”
Once again, the Student Led Conferences allow for more flexibility so you can attend either conference night. Please find your child’s team and sign-up with their unique sign-up link HERE.
In addition to the Student Led Conferences, teachers will be available to answer questions. If you would like more time to meet with any of your son or daughter’s teachers, please contact the teacher to schedule a conference during their planning time. In order to meet the needs of all students, teachers will not be able to meet with parents privately on these nights.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding conferences, please contact the middle school. We look forward to seeing you on February 12th or 20th. Thank you.
Random Acts of Kindness Week
Next week is Random Acts of Kindness week at BMMS! Teams were given posters for our students to display how they are spreading kindness throughout the building. Follow the counseling staff on twitter @BMMSCounselors to check out our pictures later this week. Our staff work hard daily to remind students to be kind and we have great students who do the right thing! Check out this fun app, "Acting Kindly is a kindness app specially formulated to make kindness fun. It's a great activity for parents to play with their kids, organizations to foster team building or for friends to have a great time while making the world a better place."
Camp Mi-Bro-Be Parent Meeting
It’s that time of year that we start talking about and planning for the historic Camp-Mi-Bro-Be 6th Grade field trip. Since 1972, 6th grade students in the Berea City School District have been participating in an outdoor education experience. This tradition will continue starting in September 2020 when the Berea City Schools sixth graders will have the opportunity to attend Camp Mi-Bro-Be for a week of exciting outdoor education.
This year we will be inviting all 5th grade parents to a Camp Mi-Bro-Be Parent Meeting on Thursday, March 19th, 2020 at 6:30pm in the BMMS auditorium. During this meeting we will talk about many things such as:
The whole Camp-Mi-Bro-Be experience
Details surrounding the daily life at camp
Mrs. Becky Elder-School Health Manager regarding food allergy concerns, medication needs/concerns, etc.
Mr. Len Muni, Director of Camp Mi-Bro-Be
We encourage you and your child to attend this informative meeting and stay for the
question and answer time at the end. We look forward to the experiences and life-long memories your child will make by attending Camp Mi-Bro-Be.
