Another First Day!
D34 Returns to Hybrid In-Person Learning January 19
Here are some memories of our last first Hybrid day in September!
GOAL Families: Keep Reading
Health & Safety
WWW Is Not Just for URLs!
In particular, the 3 Ws are key to keeping healthy. We will continue to encourage all students, staff and families to practice them in and out of school:
- Wear a Mask
- Wash Your Hands
- Watch Your Distance
COVID Cases & Contacts - Let Us Know!
We miss our students and want to see them back in school as soon as it's safe for them, their peers and their teachers!
Self Assessment Returns on Jan. 19
- Open Powerschool for Parents in your phone's web browser
- Click the "arrow up" button at the bottom of the screen
- Select "add to home page"
Note that the travel question in the self-assessment has been updated to ask: ""In the last 14 days, have you done any non-essential travel outside of suburban Cook County that put you in contact with those outside of your immediate household or have you been to in-home gatherings with those outside your household? (See IDPH Tier 3 mitigations for gatherings, and CCDPH travel guidance)"
We'll Remind You!
Quarantine Question: Still Out of Town?
District 34 will continue to follow the guidance of the Illinois Department of Public Health and Cook County Department of Public Health. Both health agencies maintain that a 14-day quarantine upon return from travel of any kind is the "gold standard" -- the best protection for individuals and our community from the spread of COVID-19. District 34 will continue to enforce the 14-day quarantine for travel, as well as for individuals who have been close contacts with those who have tested positive for COVID-19.
So, if your family did not return to Glenview from holiday travel and begin your quarantine on or before January 4, please contact your health office to determine the date that your child will return to in-person learning.
The daily self-assessment that you'll get back into the habit of completing (with helpful reminders if you want them!) will reflect that time frame. Early childhood-5th grade students who quarantine due to non-essential travel will have full access to all learning materials and asynchronous lessons. Middle school students will continue to have the option to live stream when at home in quarantine.
Of course, we continue to monitor changes in health agency recommendations, and will communicate any updates to our procedures.
More Quarantine Q&A
Here are answers to a few questions we've had from staff and families:
If a family or teacher travels in suburban Cook County (or outside of cook county) to visit a household they don't live with (like grandparents or parents) in their home, do they need to quarantine? In general, the Tier 3 mitigations limit gatherings to those in your own household.
However, if you have been visiting a consistent and small group of close relatives or other limited contacts that you are assured are following mask and distancing requirements, and during those visits, everyone is wearing masks and keeping a 6-foot distance, you do not need to quarantine (you can mark "no" to the self-assessment question about travel).
If our child has been in a pod or other regular daycare/remote learning setting with other D34 students, do they have to quarantine? If the children wear masks, keep a 6-foot distance, they do not need to quarantine.
Does the previous requirement of traveling out of state for 24 hours apply to the current travel guidance? CCDPH states that if you leave Cook County for brief errands, doctor's appointments, shopping, etc., and you wear masks, the 6-foot distance you can mark "no" to the travel question on the self assessment. If you are going to social gatherings or any activity where you are not distancing or wearing masks, you need to mark "yes."
If we travel, can my child stream into their classroom for synchronous lessons? Live streaming will not be an option for early childhood-5th grade students who must quarantine when they return from non-essential travel. Those students will have full access to all learning materials and asynchronous lessons. Middle school students will continue to have the option to live stream when at home in quarantine. We discourage non-essential travel for the safety of our entire community, and to provide the best learning opportunities for students. We know that there are challenges, particularly in younger grades but for all levels, with simultaneous streaming of in-person and remote students.
D34 COVID-19 Case Dashboard Resumes January 20
Included on our website is the Northfield Township Elementary School COVID-19 dashboard, which provides data for our region (Region 10, suburban Cook County), our township, and surrounding communities.
Winter Weather - Be Prepared
While we aren’t going to have a snow day, weather may cause us to close our buildings and have a fully remote learning day. Here are the guidelines for weather-related schedule changes.
On another weather note, we will continue to circulate 50% outside air into our buildings, even as the outside temperature drops. Therefore, we encourage staff and students to dress in layers and bring hats and mittens/gloves in the event that classrooms are cooler than usual. We will be operating our HVAC systems 24 hours a day and our buildings and grounds staff will constantly monitor the situation.
Hybrid Schedule: Days & Times
The only question asked is, "How many boxes do you need?"
Meal Pickup on Wednesdays (No Delivery After 1/13)
The D34 Food Service Team is providing FREE meal boxes to all children 18 and under. Pick up is at any District 34 school on Wednesdays from 8:30am until 1:00pm. In addition, the District offers evening pick up at Springman Middle School in the parking lot on the east side of the building off of Central Road from 4:00pm to 6:00pm.
In order for us to plan appropriately and serve you better, we are asking that you preorder with pick up location and how many boxes you need. Please fill out this form to be able to pick up meals on Wednesday. No need to give your name or contact information.
While the District will no longer be able to provide delivery, friends or family members can pick up boxes for others. The only question asked in the form and at the pickup site is, "How many boxes do you need?"

This system is used exclusively for distribution of school-approved flyers. Your email address will not be shared or used for any other purpose. You also will be able to visit your school’s website to see school-approved digital flyers by clicking the Peachjar button on each school’s website.
Note: Peachjar is free to our schools because community partners pay a small service fee to post and distribute digital flyers (typically much less than the cost to copy and deliver paper flyers).
