Homecoming Dance tentatively set for Saturday, September 11
The 2021 Homecoming Dance will be Saturday, September 11th, from 7 pm to 10 pm at Chesterton High School. Tickets for the dance will be $10 per person. If the COVID-19 positivity rate in Porter County and the DSC COVID-19 Response Plan places CHS and Porter County in “Orange” or “Red” the dance will be postponed until Saturday, November 6th. Please read below for more information.
Tickets will be sold starting Thursday, September 2 online only. All CHS students will be emailed a link with the instructions on how to purchase a ticket to the homecoming dance. It is very important that all students follow these instructions in order to enter the dance. Ticket sales will end on Friday, September 10th. There will be an $0.85 processing fee in addition to the $10 ticket price.
Students MUST bring their student ID in order to enter the dance.
In order to provide the safest possible environment for the homecoming dance, we will be separating the student guests into two dance floors. Junior and Senior attendees will be in the cafeteria. Freshman and Sophomore attendees will be in the field house.
The 2021 Homecoming Dance will be semi-formal, OR informal for students to attend. Families do not need to purchase any special attire for the dance. Students will be admitted into the dance in their school-appropriate attire.
No outside guests will be permitted to attend the homecoming dance. Only CHS students will be able to attend the dance.
The CHS Administration will communicate with our students and families if the dance is postponed to the November 6th date. Tickets purchased for the September dance date will be honored for the November date.
Refunds will be available for any student who purchases a dance ticket.

Academic Support Opportunities for Students
Academic Support while in Quarantine and/or Isolation
. • Individuals who test positive for COVID-19 shall isolate, including exclusion from schools for at least 10 days following the onset of symptoms or, if asymptomatic, at least 10 days from the date of collection of the positive test.
• Asymptomatic individuals, unless fully vaccinated or recovered from a COVID-19 infection within the past 90 days, who are identified as a close contact of a COVID-19 case shall quarantine for 10 days after the date of last exposure, following additional precautions for days 11-14.
• Testing is recommended for all close contacts of confirmed COVID-19 cases. Close contacts who test positive, whether symptomatic or asymptomatic, should be managed as a confirmed COVID-19 case.
• Individuals who are fully vaccinated (i.e., two weeks have passed since final vaccination dose), are not required to quarantine if exposed. Fully vaccinated individuals who are exposed to a COVID-19 case should monitor for signs and symptoms, get tested on days 3-5 following exposure, and wear a mask for 14 days or until they receive a negative result. If symptoms develop, they should isolate and get tested.
Based on the required isolation and quarantine guidelines above, numerous DSC students have been excluded from school this year. As a result, additional support measures are being enacted to maintain academic progress for all students.
Effective August 27, 2021: To assist in keeping all students current with their schoolwork during exclusion, DSC will be implementing the following educational opportunities for students:
- DSC students who have been placed in isolation or quarantine will have access to follow along with their teachers and course work while absent from school. Teachers may select to use either a live feed into their classroom, via Zoom or Google Meet, or with lessons that may include pre-recorded instruction via Canvas and/or YouTube as their strategy to keep students current with their education. Teachers will not take attendance for students who are participating from home. Students will be responsible for the work they miss if they don’t participate. Please check each teacher's Canvas page that your student has for more specific directions.
