Introduction

You are about to embark on an advertising campaign centered around Mario Kart Wii! You will apply all of the media literacy knowledge you have learned the last 2 years and apply it to a real-world campaign and produce tangible media products. The culminating activity will be a Mario Kart Tournament featuring all of you!

Task

Student Learning Targets:


The Mushroom Cup is coming to Manchester, CT! As the OCS Advertising Group, you will be creating a media campaign to let the world know about this huge event! And once the campaign is completed, you will get to participate in the Mushroom Cup in a class tournament!


You will be working individually and in small groups to complete the following activities for the media campaign:


Activity #1 - Print Advertisement (using Google Drawing) promoting the Mushroom Cup (Group)


Activity #2 - 30-second Radio Advertisement (using Garageband) promoting the Mushroom Cup (Group)


Activity #3 - 30-second TV Advertisement (using the video cameras and iMovie) promoting the Mushroom Cup (Group)


Activity #4 - Instructions on how to play Mario Kart for anyone who has never played. You can do this in a Google Doc or Google Drawing in diagram form (Group)


Activity #5 - Argumentative Letter to the Editor - Are you for or against having the event being held in your town? (Individual)


Activity #6 - Mushroom Cup Tournament (Individual)


Activity #7 - Class Newspapers covering the entire event using Google Docs (Group)

Process

You will have 8 weeks to complete all of the tasks below. Embedded with each project is a collection of materials and a rubric on how you will be assessed for each project.

Each student must complete ALL projects and must turn in all projects on the due dates in order to participate in the tournament at the end of the unit.

Article Summaries are a part of the project and will be worth up to 5 points per review.
