THIS WEEK IN 'STANG COUNTRY
WINTER SPORTS RECAP
WELCOME BACK!
We are excited to update everyone after a long, but successful, winter sports season. The Mustangs participate in five CHSAA sanctioned sports during the months of November-March and each on one of our student-athletes and teams showed tremendous growth, perseverance, and passion for their sport. The winter season always provides challenges with scheduling, weather postponements, and transportation but our team was committed to making sure all of these programs were ready for success. In all, the 'Stangs had a total of 12 Tri-Peaks League All Conference athletes and more than 100 participants total this winter. Sport specific winter recaps can be found in the sections below.
We have quickly transitioned into spring sports seasons and with less than two weeks of practice in the books, we are off and running with competitions. Track and Field opened their season last weekend at the CSU-Pueblo Early Bird Invite and the Harrison Invite. The 'Stangs had a strong showing early in the season with several athletes finding the podium. Junior John Maynard set a PR and placed first in the boys high jump at a mark of 6'4''. The girls soccer team opened their season with a home match against Middle Park. The Mustangs received a pair of goals from the junior duo of Madrid Mack and Eric Sherwin, but ultimately were unable to pull away from the Panthers ending in a 2-2 tie. They also had a terrific outing last week against a tough Jefferson Academy team. Baseball opened their season last week with a trio of the games. The Mustangs have a strong nucleus returning led by a solid middle infield and will look to compete for the Tri-Peaks League Championship. Girls golf is also underway and working to get swings in outside when the weather has allowed. They will be led by junior Tyler Parratt, the lone state qualifier returning from last season. The Mustangs have several newcomers in sophomore Liz Johnson and freshman Lily Kocks who will look to contribute as well.
Lastly, we would like to extend a special thank you to all of the people who supported our teams and student athletes throughout the winter. Your support for our programs does not go unnoticed and leaves a lasting impression on the young people in our programs. The Mustang Club continued to grow throughout the winter picking up several new donors. If you or anyone you may know is still interested in contributing for the 2021-2022 year, please see the information below. Your generosity and support has allowed many of our programs to extend opportunities to student athletes that create lasting meanigful memories.
We hope everyone is having a great start to the week! Let's finish the school year strong and supporting these student athletes and teams all the way to the finish line. Go 'Stangs!
