CPS Weekly Parent Update
Week of October 26, 2020
In-Person Arrival of Cohort B and C Students This Week
Cohort B students arrived today and we look forward to welcoming Cohort C students in-person on Thursday, 10/29. The CPS Staff thanks you for preparing students so well for the Covid-19 protocols of wearing a mask at school, cleaning their personal desks between classes, and following a whole new set of rules as they move about the building.
Sorry, no video this week.
Thank you,
Michael Horton
CPS Principal

Full Hybrid Schedule Now in Effect
The FULL Hybrid Schedule is finally in effect as Nantucket moved out of the 'red' zone into the 'yellow' zone on Wednesday, 10/21.
Mondays and Tuesdays are in-person for Cohorts A & B
Thursdays and Fridays are in-person for Cohorts A & C
Wednesdays are REMOTE for all students.
Even if we are deemed 'red' again in the future, the Superintendent has more leeway to decide whether to continue with hybrid or pull back to remote for some or all students. This decision is a consultation with the local health department and school committee. The MA DESE gives Dr. Hallett more decision-making power in order to avoid flip-flopping every week; a variety of island info and data are factored in to make a local decision for NPS.

We would also like to consider assigning lockers to students in the next month when the weather gets colder.
ASPEN is open for Parents to review student grades and progress
Grade 6 will not be using a standards-based grading system this year and will return to a traditional grading system in alignment with grades 7 & 8.
Per school committee policy, homework cannot be worth more than 10% of a student's overall trimester grade. Teachers score a variety of work in different percentages, so please consult your student's grade-level teacher for an exact breakdown. Grades 6 & 8 place assessments in a category worth 70% of the trimester grade, and in grade 7 assessments are 90% of a student's trimester grade. The other 10%-30% is mix of classwork, homework, participation, and effort.
Nantucket Cottage Hospital - Free Covid Testing
"Stop the Spread" Free COVID-19 Testing: Nantucket Cottage Hospital is now offering free COVID-19 testing for asymptomatic individuals. Please click here to learn more about how to take advantage of this free testing opportunity. You can also ask your school nurse or your health care provider for more information.

CAMERAS ON!
COHORT switches on HOLD for now
The superintendent has put a HOLD on adding more students to Cohort A until we go through one week's cycle of having Cohort B and C students in the building.
As soon as we get a sense of the routine of adding Cohort B and Cohort C students to in-person days, we can revisit filling some Cohort A 'seats' vacated by students who have opted for Cohort D - all remote.
