Tiogue Faculty and Staff Bulletin
September 7, 2019 - No.2
Our first full week is coming up!
A Message From Our Sunshine Committee:
Hello Friends,
This year, Grade 2 teachers are the school's Sunshine Committee. Our main purpose is to show our support to Tiogue's entire school community. As in past years, we will start by collecting $40 from full-time staff and $20 from part-time staff and SRP.
Please see Ann Horgan in room 19 before or after school to submit your payment. The envelope will be in Donna Costa's room (rm. 17) during the school day. Make checks payable to "Tiogue Donation Fund" and endorse the back of the check with "Tiogue Donation Fund". Payment is due by September 11.
If you are aware of any situation that requires Sunshine, please bring it to our attention.
Thank you,
Ann, Martha, and Donna

STAR Information from Don Cowart
Thank you for your patience with STAR. The rollover is complete. Erin is doing some fine tuning and we hope to have the screening window open Monday 9/9/2019. Tomorrow we will email you all the information you need to get started, along with the timelines and some district goals. Principals and teachers should start planning for screenings starting next week. We are sending STAR Parent Reports home this year. I recommend thinking about screening during an optimal time when your students can do their best. The right test environment, attitudes about the assessment and clear expectations around effort have a huge impact on how students do on any assessment type.
We will need to share Chromebooks in order to get all STAR Testing done over the next few weeks. Please let me know if you would like me to help to facilitate the process of sharing devices. Several of you spoke with me on Friday, and have come up with a schedule for your grade or room. Just let me know.
From our Reading Dept.:
Hello Teachers,
As we settle into the 2019-2020 school year here are a few reminders from Tiogue Reading.
- Summer Reading Book Logs should be sent to Room 20 with student and teacher or room number at the top. Students are asked to return them by Friday, 9/13. No late book logs will be counted towards the Dr. Gordon-RI Children's Dentistry Summer Reading Challenge.
- Guided Reading Library in Room 1 is available to all staff to borrow teacher resources and student leveled text sets. We ask that everyone sign out materials using our sign out system. This is an important way we maintain these valuable school resources! Let us know if you'd like us show you the system.
- Those of you who have questions regarding administering DRA2 and STAR assessments, please feel free to come to Room 20 to ask Lisa or Sue. We are happy to help answer questions or help you find assessment materials. REMINDER: Copies of DRA2 teacher recording and student response forms are available in Room 1. Most of you know there is a file cabinet to the left of the entrance marked with DRA levels. Please let Heather Aguilar in Room 20 know if you notice copies are running low and please do not take the last copy in a file!!

EVERFI information from Don Cowart:
Hello,
Coventry Public Schools has no-cost access to an online learning platform called EVERFI. Through this platform, you have access to co-curricular digital lessons on various 21st Century Skills which are designed to complement existing units, fill curriculum gaps or serve as a resource for you to support whole child education. EVERFI can support your advisory or content area in STEM, financial education/career readiness, social emotional learning and health & wellness. Here is access to a break down of their K-12 learning resources. Lesson lengths vary from 10 minutes to 30 minutes.
Have an account? - login by going to www.everfi.com/login
NEW EVERFI teachers - create your account by going to www.everfi.com/newteacher
Once you have logged in and have added the programs to your dashboard, create a class to generate a class code. When you are ready to get started with students:
Direct students to www.everfi.com/register
Provide them with your class code
Students will create a student dashboard with username and password and have access to the program. Students can add programs to their dashboard in the top right corner with a class code.
If you have any questions or would like to learn more about how these programs can support your classroom please contact our EVERFI representative Dan Weidmann at dweidmann@everfi.com.
