Staffing Updates
- Chip Russell has longed to spend time at one school in the seven years he has served as an itinerant. He will be able to do so at OPES this year. Grateful for his work and wishing him and his family the best.
- Jacob Wilkerson is our new itinerant replacing C. Russell on Tuesdays and Wednesday's. Jacob has an extensive career as a PE teacher and coach multiple sports at the high school level.
- Kathy Rice will serve as our new computer lab manager. Kathy comes to us from Dutch Fork Middle School. She has previous experience managing computer labs at RSES and HECES.
Please join us in welcoming our new colleagues to DFES.
Personal Update
My goal was to send out our staff newsletter last weekend. My mother in law died Saturday, July 28 after a 14 year battle with kicking Cancer's butt. Consequently I was out of the office last week. I initially shared this info with the office staff so that they could fill in during my absence. Grateful for amazing colleagues that support us all during such times.

DFES
DFES Tradition - 24 Hour Inquiry
The 24 hour inquiry is a DFES tradition that is unique to our school and identity. As we begin the journey in establishing a magnet program (5 years ago) that embraces inquiry as a stance for teaching and learning.
We are committed to positioning the tall learners (adults) in our school community to take part in this process to model what we expect and condition we set for small learners (students).
Please submit your name and topic by this Friday. Your responses will be used to determine group assignments for our first day on August 15th.
Polling Place
DFES will serve as a polling place on Tuesday, August 14th. Voting booths will be set up in the science lab hallway. We are going to ask that our staff leave parking near the first grade wing, science lab, and gym area open for visitors who will vote on that day.
First Week Skeleton Schedule
