Mount Olive Parent Newsletter
May 2020
A Note From Dr. Cutter
Dear parents,
I hope you and your family are staying healthy and safe during this uncertain time. I want to thank you for the patience you have shown over the last month in regards to communication. We all love our sense of normalcy and the ability to know what's on the horizon, which is why one of the hardest parts of this pandemic has been having to wait for guidance and direction from the state before we could communicate a plan going forward. The governor's announcement last week that the stay-at-home order would expire on April 30th has allowed Knox County Schools to devise more clear guidelines for our schools going forward. Based on the state and county's current guidelines, we have outlined a plan for the next month that is detailed below. Please feel free to email me at casey.cutter@knoxschools.org if you have any questions.
Our hearts are still broken about not getting to finish out the school year, but we believe we have a solid plan going forward to close out the year. While this has been a school year unlike any we have ever seen, we are still so proud of the school year we have had together. Our students have continued to grow socially, emotionally and academically and I believe that the recent circumstances have helped our students, staff and families appreciate each other on a whole new level. We continue to dream of the day when our Mount Olive family will be reunited and we hope you know now more than ever how deeply our Mount Olive staff members care for your students. We look forward to seeing you this next month!
Thanks,
Dr. Cutter

Accessing Q3 Report Cards
Because kindergarten students receive paper progress reports, their grades are not accessible via Family Portal. We will distribute hard copy Kindergarten progress reports to families at the end of the school year. Families may reach out to their child’s kindergarten teacher should they have questions about student progress before the end of the school year.
Kindergarten Round-Up Information
EOY Student Supply Pickup Day
Kindergarten - 8:00-9:30
1st - 9:30-11:00
2nd - 11:00-12:30
3rd - 12:30-2:00
4th - 2:00-3:30
5th - 3:30-5:00
We ask that you please stick to the schedule to help with traffic and logistics during the event. If you have multiple students, you are welcome to choose whichever of their grade level times works best for you to pickup your students' supplies.
During the Pickup Day, parents will drive through a series of stations to pickup everything you need and close out the year. Here is a preliminary list of stations you will drive through on the pickup day:
- Student Supply & Personal Item Pickup-The teachers will put together all of your students belongings in bags and a staff member will bring these items to your car at this station.
- Medicine Pickup-This station is where parents can pickup any medicine that they have checked in for their students at school.
- Field Trip Reimbursements-Pickup any field trip fees you are owed at this station.
- Library Book Drop Off/EOY Report Card Pickup-This station is to turn in any outstanding library books. Per district policy, you must turn in all outstanding library books in order to be able to pickup your student's EOY report card.
- Yearbook Pickup-The PTO will be distributing this year's yearbooks at this station.
Your students' teachers will be onsite during the pickup time in case you have any questions. You are also welcome to bring your student or students with you to the Pickup to say one final goodbye to their teachers, just keep in mind that all parents and students will be required to stay in their cars to ensure the safety of everyone during this pandemic. No students or parents will be allowed to go in the school. If for some reason you can't make the Student Supply Pickup Day on Thursday, May 21st during the designated grade level time, we will be holding an alternative Student Supply Pickup the following day on Friday, May 22nd from 1:00-3:00 PM.
Making the End Of The Year Special For Our Students
The "Eagle Walk" is also a very special tradition where we normally celebrate our fifth graders by giving them one final walk down the Mount Olive halls, while the entire school cheers them on and thanks them for everything they have done as an Eagle. Since we can't make that special tradition happen this year, we instead are going to do an "Eagle Fly By" where our fifth graders and their parents will have an opportunity to do one last drive around the Mount Olive campus. Our staff members will be socially distanced and spread out around the campus to cheer them on while you drive through. Since all of our students haven't been able to close out the year the way they have wanted to, we have decided to open up the "Eagle Drive" for all of our students this year. This means that any student is welcome to drive through with their parents. This will be a great opportunity for everyone to get to see their teachers while staying safe in their cars. The date and time for the "Eagle Fly By" is Tuesday, May 26th from 5:00-7:00 PM. Be sure to stay tuned to our Facebook and Twitter pages as we release more details about the "Eagle Fly By" and any other upcoming events.
Field Trip and Other Fee Reimbursements
If you would like to reimbursed for any field trip or other fees that were collected during February and March, please complete the MOES Field Trip & Other Fee Reimbursement Form. Once we are able to be back in the building and reconcile our accounts, we will do our best to grant your request and reimburse you at the Student Supply Pickup Day. If you do not complete the form, we will assume that you would like to have your fees donated to the school. These donations will be placed in the general fund account and will be used for much needed student supplies and future field trips. Please complete this form no later than Tuesday, May 12th.
The PTO wanted to share that the final week's pizza money that was paid by parents was donated to the PTO. If you have any questions about your student's pizza money, you are welcome to contact Jennifer Adcock at 865-363-1077.
