October Parent Newsletter
GREETINGS FROM DR. BROWN
Dear Parents,
It's October and it's Filipino American History Month! This month is also College Awareness Month. I am happy to announce the completion of another successful month of virtual learning. We survived the cyberattack, and we have 98% of students logged back onto Schoology to receive instruction. I want to extend my gratitude to all families for your patience, support, and understanding as we worked diligently to rectify the disruption to our program. Again, thank you!
On September 28th, we had a visit from Superintendent Carvalho. He visited the Welcome Center at Curtiss Middle School in Carson and joined Ms. Luna's 9th-grade class. He was very pleased with our program and the level of student engagement. Special thanks to our teachers who prepared all students and were ready to show Superintendent Carvalho the fantastic work at A&E.
I am excited to announce that A&E will offer students the opportunity to be part of several after-school clubs. Students need to sign up to participate. Flyers are on our Schoology page, and teachers have shared this great news too. We currently have the following clubs:
Music Production Club- Grades 5 - 12
Anime Club - Grades 6 - 12
Art Club - Grades 1 and 2
Bible Club - ALL students
Choreography Club Grades: Middle and High
Mexican Folk Art Club Grades: 2 and 3
Operetta Club Grade 3
Screenwriting Club Grade: High School only
Elementary students who are not passing their subjects received an unsatisfactory notice last week. Middle and High school students will receive their 5th Week report cards this week. (October 3-7). Parents, please communicate with your students and their teachers to discuss options to receive additional academic support to improve grades.
We have successfully formed our School Site Council Committee. We are inviting parents of our English Learners to join the English Learner Advisory Committee. Any interested parents please email Mark Kaplan at mak2712@lausd.net or join our meeting on Monday at 5pm. Please see below for zoom information.
Thanks for being an important member of our A &E family!
