Back to School Post-Harvey

Friendswood teachers and staff were happy to welcome students back to school after Hurricane Harvey. Our thoughts continue to be with the members of our community affected by the storm. Please reach out to FHS if there is anything we can do to help.

Friendswood High School Named NFHS National Performing Arts School of Excellence!

With the assistance of the Texas UIL, FHS has been selected for its exemplary diverse and award-winning fine arts programs.This recognition is awarded to only one high school each fall during the National Performing Arts Week for the NFHS, which is the week of October 10-14. Congratulations Fine Arts Department for this outstanding honor!

Congratulations Oliver Olsen - National Merit Finalist!

Congratulations go to senior Oliver Olsen who qualified as a National Merit Finalist! Eligibility is based on last year's PSAT scores.

Senior Sunrise c/o 2018

The Class of 2018 started the year together with the annual Senior Sunrise event. They will finish their senior year with the Senior Sunset. A great tradition to mark their last year at Friendswood High School!

Eclipse Day August 21st 2017

Thanks to the Hillenburg Family and Dr. David Montz all FISD students had glasses for viewing the eclipse safely! Students and teachers were excited to see this rare astronomical event. Plans are already in the works to make Eclipse Day April 8, 2024 even better - Texas will be in the path of totality! Mark your calendars!

Earth & Space Science Eclipse Field Study

Dawne Welch's Earth and Space Science students started the year with an eclipse field study. It was a wonderful (and opportune) way to begin the course!

FHS Recycling Club Participating In A New Program!

FHS Recycling Club is joining Westwood and Bales in recycling markers through the Crayola ColorCycle Recycling Program. This program takes in any markers, not just the Crayola Brand, and recycles them. Crayola even pays for the shipping costs! FHS Recycling Club Leaders decorated boxes to put in each department to collect the used markers.

The Recycling Club is also teaming up with Student Council at the next home football game on Friday Sept. 29th to educate and encourage people to recycle. Reduce, reuse, RECYCLE!

English III/US History Collaborative Class

Students in Melissa Stephenson's and Corey Truman's Collaborative English III and US History class shared their "This I Believe" statements. Superintendent Thad Roher also came and shared his statement with the class.

Constitution Week 2017

Principles Of Biomedical Sciences Begin The Year With A Mystery!

Students in Heather Martin's Principles of Biomedical Sciences course started their studies with a simulated possible crime scene. The mystery of what happened to the fictional "Anna" is woven throughout the curriculum and provides an engaging framework for learning about concepts in biology and medicine. How intriguing!

FHS Theatre Department Presents Mustang Follies

FHS Theatre Students present the Comedy Cabaret Mustang Follies on Friday 9/22 and Saturday 9/23. There are two shows at 7pm and 9pm each evening. Come out and have a laugh!

Art Department Paints Props For Band Marching Show

The FHS Art department painted trees for the band's halftime show Spring Forward - Fall Back. Over 60 students were involved in this endeavor, and it has been such a wonderful way to collaborate within the Fine Arts department!

FHS Theatre Department Presents Romeo & Juliet

The 2017 Fall Production is William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Kathy Powdrell directs the cast of 58 and crew of 31 students. They are busy rehearsing stage combat and dancing scenes. Come out and see this tragedy!

Lady Mustang Volleyball Starts The Season Strong!

Your Friendswood volleyball program dominated Clear Brook on Friday 9/15 to open district play! The Lady Mustangs followed that with a win on Tuesday 9/19 against Clear Creek to end Creek's 44 district game win streak!

Senior Faith Marabella was named to the Fraulein All tournament team. Seniors Natalie Abowd, McKenna Fridye, Kylie Lockhart, and Faith Marabella were also named to the AVCA All American watch list for this season.

Cross Country Goes On A Medal Run!

The FHS cross country team won 5 of the 6 divisions at the annual Beach Run in Galveston. 44 kids received medals at this event. Outstanding!

Tennis Defeats District Rivals!

Our Tennis team is 7-3 on the year and started district matches (2-1). FHS defeated Clear Brook 12 to 7 in the first district match of the season. FHS also traveled to and defeated Alvin 19 to 0 to makeup the date missed due to Harvey. They fell to Clear Creek in a hard fought match.

Back Under Those Friday Night Lights!

Varsity football played their first home game of this season against Kingwood on Friday 9/15. The game was played with a spirit of community as Kingwood High School and its surrounding area were impacted severely by Harvey. Our Mustangs played well and took the victory!

For those that missed the game, the video below was played before the game and welcome the Kingwood Mustangs to Friendswood. #stangstrong

FHS Alum Tyler Page Plays For SMU

Once a Mustang, always a Mustang! FHS record holding quarterback Tyler Page, class of 2017, is playing receiver for the SMU Mustangs as a Freshman. We wish him the best!

FHS wants to give a special thanks to all of our substitute teachers. Substitutes make a difference everyday for our students. They are committed to making a seamless bridge in the classroom environment when our teachers have to miss. They do a very important job and do it with Mustang Pride! Thanks to our Subs for all they do for our students!
