Hello!
Welcome to ISWA! My name is Megan Ingalls and I am so excited that you are in my Homeroom class this year. I hope you will always feel comfortable to use me as your first point of contact when you feel unsure about anything. I will be your Homeroom teacher for the year and am here to support you with:
- Feeling connected - to peers, teachers, resources, etc.
- Monthly Progress Conferences (MPCs) - held the first week of each month
- Working towards Satisfactory (SAT) standing - passing all/most your courses
- High School & Beyond Plans - required each year for graduation
- Creating a plan to succeed - established during MPC meetings
The steps below were created to help you, the Learning Coach and Student, to be the most prepared you could possibly be before school starts. Your journey at Insight School of Washington has begun! Please bookmark this page and take notice of our list of Important Resource links at the bottom of this newsletter. They are helpful all school year!
STEP 1: SET UP THE LEARNING COACH (LC) AND STUDENT ACCOUNT
Students, grab your Learning Coach (LC) to start this process!
- Learning Coaches are expected to log into this account at least once a week
As soon as you create an LC account, you can create the student account!
- Watch this short video overview of your student account.
STEP 2: CHANGE YOUR TIME ZONE SETTINGS
STEP 3 (FOR LEARNING COACHES): COMPLETE LEARNING COACH UNIVERSITY
There is also a helpful website for Learning Coaches that will answer all of your questions and help you understand your account and expectations: Learning Coach Role or check out this Smore with all you need to know to keep track of your student's progress.
STEP 5: STRONG START REQUIREMENTS
- Attend "New Student Orientation" session on first day of school - at 9:30 am Monday February 13.
- Attend daily homeroom sessions the first week of school - at 12:45 pm Monday - Thursday and 10 am Friday (Step 6)
- ORN015 - see more information below under "Step 7"
Optional Help/Get to know me sessions
STEP 6: HOMEROOM ORIENTATION WEEK
You must attend our 1 hour Orientation on Monday, 1/9. Tuesday through Thursday, we will hold Required Homeroom sessions at 12:45 pm. These are designed to help explain where to find information, complete assignments, go to class, and how to organize yourself. Friday we'll take the Star360 assessments together at 10:00 am.
STEP 7: STUDENT'S FIRST ASSIGNMENT
Students are REQUIRED to complete a short online learning course by the end of the first week of school (2/17). It should take approximately 30 minutes to complete. This ORN015 Online Learning: Middle and High School class will be found in the Student Account under the Classes tab. It should be available before school starts. All other courses will show up on the first day of school.
This class is a wonderful overview of the Online High School that will help you prepare for your first day at Insight. This course should be in your account now and ready for you to complete!
As always, please feel free to email me, Ms. Ingalls, at mingalls@k12insightwa.org with any questions, comments, or fun facts!
