PHCS "Digital Days" Parent Update
Week Seven - May 4th-8th, 2020
A NOTE FROM YOUR PRINCIPALS
Dear PHCS Families,
A big congrats for our elementary students, families, and teachers on being identified as a 2020 NYS Recognition School! On April 23rd the New York State Education Department identified 582 schools from across the state with this honor. Recognition Schools are defined as those with high academic achievement and strong progress, that also perform acceptably for all subgroups for which they are accountable. PHCS Elementary was one of only two regional schools recognized as achieving this status. Interim Commissioner Shannon Tahoe stated, “Recognition schools are the highest performing and rapidly improving schools across the state. Across the state (they) demonstrate the relentless commitment of teachers, administrators, staff, and parents, without whom this growth would not have been possible.” We are very proud of our community!
On that note, this week is National Teacher Appreciation Week. We hope you'll join us in honoring our teachers by reaching out in some way. Perhaps you can assist your child(ren) with one of our virtual teacher appreciation ideas! We are truly thankful for our instructional staff . . . they are top-notch!
As you may already know, schools are now closed for the year statewide. Online instruction will continue through the mandatory instructional time designated by NYS. We will share more detailed information as it becomes available. Although we are saddened by this news, we are focused on providing meaningful and engaging learning through remote instructional experiences. Participation in online activities and remote instruction will be vital to your child's success when we return to school! Information concerning the 2020 Commencement Ceremony will be forthcoming.
The Mid-Trimester (Term 5 of the school year) ends on May 8th. Teachers will be completing Elementary Progress Reports and Secondary Report Cards that will be emailed to parents by, or on, Friday, May 15th. Please let us know if you have an updated email address by calling 315-265-4642 and leaving a message with the appropriate building level office. We will promptly update your information on Schooltool so that you can receive our child's 5th Term (Mid-Trimester) marks. Please note that these Reports will reflect your child's level of "distance learning engagement". At the elementary level, you will see E- engaged and N - not engaged indicators for core subjects. The documents will be mainly narrative and will be attached to your child's regular report card at the end of the year. At the secondary level Reports will indicator Pass/Fail status.
Just a quick reminder that the BACKPACK PROGRAM is available. The application is posted on our website and is linked here: BACKPACK PROGRAM APPLICATION. If you are temporarily in need of assistance with additional food items, hygiene products, and/or school supplies, please submit an application online. (Income guidelines have been temporarily suspended.)
The next BACKPACK PROGRAM delivery date is scheduled for Wednesday, May 6th. (Please note this in addition to the Monday food deliveries. If you already participate in the Backpack Program, there is no need to re-apply!)
Please be sure to access our online Helpdesk Assistance Form if you need any assistance and check our Facebook Page and District Website frequently for updates on the school closure.
Stay strong, Panthers!

This week's "Digital Learning Days" Cycle:
Monday - Day 4 (Meal Delivery Date)
Tuesday - Day 1
Wednesday - Day 2(Backpack Program Delivery Date)
Thursday - Day 3
Friday - Day 4
Updated Food Service Plan
Next Meal Delivery Date is Monday, ........
Please watch for the school bus as we can longer backtrack or make additional deliveries if you miss the first run through your neighborhood.
PHCS is now providing foodservice once a week. Each family will receive enough food on Monday to provide breakfast and lunch for children in the household age 18 and under. Remember, students do not need to qualify for a free or reduced-price lunch in order to receive food. Families will need to be signed-up on the foodservice form in order to receive these deliveries. If you have not signed up yet, here is the link:
If you have already been receiving meals there is no need to complete the form again.
PHCS is working hard to provide this service for families in our district while doing all we can to keep our staff safe. You will now find that rather than pre-made sandwiches, the items needed to make sandwiches will be included in the delivery. This new plan reduces the number of staff hours and greatly reduces the handling of food items.
