UHMS Rising Phoenix
Uplift Hampton Middle School Week of July 29, 2019
A Word From Administration
Hi Amazing Phoenix Phamily!
We hope everyone took the time to re-energize their bodies and restore our spirit. Here we go! The wonderful days of summer break have passed quickly and are beginning to blend into the warm, wonderful days of a new school year. We would like to officially thank our 1st and 2nd year Uplift Hampton staff for an outstanding week of professional development! We learned, planned, laughed, sang, danced together and had plenty of opportunity to prepare classrooms for yourselves and scholars. The beginning of every school year comes with plenty of excitement and anticipation. We can hardly sleep anticipating the new learning and discoveries for scholars and all of us. We anticipate this will be our best year ever of growing our brains. We are grateful for your support, your open mind, all that you give to the Phoenix scholars and their families. “Listen to the Wind, It Talks. Listen to the Silence, It Speaks. Listen to your Heart, It Knows." Native American Proverb
With much gratitude and admiration,
Priscilla, Chataqua, Chrissy, and Jabez
Important Announcements and Information!
Annual Training Reminder – All mandatory online training modules have been updated on BlackBoard under the course title “Uplift Annual Training.” Each course is labeled to indicate who is required to complete it. Please pay attention to this, as not all modules are required for all teachers. The Luna deadline to complete this training is by EOD August 5th. Uplift employees who do not complete all their required annual trainings by August 5th will not be able to enter campus on the first day of school. The mandatory ALICE Active Shooter training will be sent to all faculty members via email early next week and must also be completed by EOD August 5th.
Meet the Phonix Phamily Back to School Blast – Our annual Meet the Phoenix Phamily will be held in conjunction with High School’s Back to School Blast on Thursday, August 1st from 5:30pm – 7:00pm. All middle school employees are required to attend this event to greet our families and answer any questions that they may have about their classes and the upcoming school year.
Furniture: All furniture has been moved in the correct rooms according to the standard of the building. Please do not move any furniture (scholar desks, teacher desks, book shelf, economy (rolling) carts, etc.) into or out of your classrooms/offices. Personal furniture will not be approved for rooms at this time. If you have personal furniture, remove it (bing bags are the exception.) If you have questions see your dean. If you are having any issue in your room please submit a FACILITIES help ticket (https://assetessentials.dudesolutions.com/UpliftEducation/). If you are having an issue with technology, please submit an iHelp ticket (https://ihelp.uplifteducation.org/welcome.portal).

Course Structures and Common Assessments: Course Structures and Common Assessments are now up on Blackboard. Please review these and use them for planning. If you have any feedback on alignment or rigor, please compile this feedback with your team and email it to your dean ASAP.
Use It or Lose It: All employee Vacation and Local Days will be lost if not used or donated by August 31. HR reminder:
· Vacation and Local Days do not roll over.
· State Days (we receive 5 per year) do roll over
Employees can donate the soon to be lost time to the Shared Time Donor Program with the below link. This allows our colleagues who have exhausted PTO for things such as medical emergencies, to access additional time. We strongly encourage you to participate in this opportunity. https://ishine.uplifteducation.org/cmo/HR/Pages/Shared-Leave-Donation.aspx
Benefits Enrollment – Open enrollment is the only time in the year when employees can make changes to their benefits without a qualifying event (i.e. marriage, childbirth, divorce, etc.), and this year the window opened on Monday, July 15 and closes on Friday, August 2. Because healthcare needs and plan details may change from one year to the next, it is vital that all employees review their benefit elections during open enrollment. If you have questions for the Benefits Department, email benefits@uplifteducation.org.
