SMS Jag E-News

February 14, 2021

Hey Jags,

We hope that you are staying safe and warm as you enjoy this long weekend. As you are hopefully aware, this upcoming week has had a shift in expectations due to the significantly colder weather that is coming our way. Monday, February 15, is a school holiday and Tuesday, February 16 is an asynchronous day of learning for all students, regardless of learning model. Please read the item below about this asynchronous day, as well as district communication about how this weather may impact learning and school. The District will continue to monitor the impact of the arctic storm and provide timely updates to our community via the District’s website, social media and mass notification system once new information is available.

Be sure to check out the information below for updates on course selection, health and wellness activities, athletic updates, and some student work from our AVID College Fair. Have a great week Jags!

Stay safe,

Cholly Oglesby

Attendance and engagement in all classes, regardless of learning model, is expected from every student, every day. Parent notes are required for all absences within five days from the absence date. Notes must include full student name as well as the reason for the absence (including technical difficulties). If a student misses a synchronous engagement, they are counted absent. Please email all absence notes to Contact our attendance clerk, Mrs. Williams, at (281)634-6322 if you have questions.

1. The student is required to attend all classes for every period a class is offered.

2. The student has to respond to roll call when the teacher calls his/her name.

3. The student has to be engaged and participate in class.

4. If the student is having technical issues, missing the classing link, they should email the teacher during the class about the issue.

SMS Cell Phone Policy

This is a reminder to all parents and students that Sartartia Middle School is an "Away for the Day" campus. Student devices (including cell phones, headphones, airpods, etc), are to be turned off and in a backpack unless the classroom teacher has allowed the use of devices for instructional purposes. Phones and other devices that are visible in classrooms and hallways during the school day will be picked up and held in in the front office until the end of the day. Administrators and staff will be doing hall sweeps to collect all phones and devices that are not being used for instructional purposes. All students have access to a phone in the front office to contact a parent or guardian if needed.

SMS Morning Tutorials

Tutorials are offered throughout the week by each teacher and team. These tutorials are available to all students and offered virtually from 8:20-8:45am through Teams. Teachers have posted their tutorial times and links in Schoology, but you can also access the complete schedule and all links in the attached document.

Daily Wellness Screening

Parents/students must complete a Daily Wellness Screening through Skyward. If your child is cleared, they may attend school that day. If your child is not cleared, they may not report to school and a member from the district COVID-19 contact tracing team will contact families directly. In addition to the screener, students will receive, and must pass, a temperature check before reporting to their classroom. To make student entry as safe and efficient as possible, please make sure the screener is completed prior 8:00 AM each day. Another way students can be allowed in is by showing a screen shot of their “cleared” screen. This screen shot must show the date for that day to be accepted.

Secondary Student Support Portal

In an effort to enhance our technology support, Fort Bend ISD has given secondary students (Grades 6 - 12) the ability to report application and hardware incidents using the FBISD Support Portal via 1Link. Students will select Student Application Support or Student Hardware Support to request assistance.
