Hey Jags,
We hope that you are staying safe and warm as you enjoy this long weekend. As you are hopefully aware, this upcoming week has had a shift in expectations due to the significantly colder weather that is coming our way. Monday, February 15, is a school holiday and Tuesday, February 16 is an asynchronous day of learning for all students, regardless of learning model. Please read the item below about this asynchronous day, as well as district communication about how this weather may impact learning and school. The District will continue to monitor the impact of the arctic storm and provide timely updates to our community via the District’s website, social media and mass notification system once new information is available.

March 4, 2021-SMS Virtual Spring Open House
All Fort Bend ISD campuses and facilities will be closed on Tuesday, February 16, due to the arctic front that will impact Fort Bend County and the surrounding areas starting this weekend. Asynchronous learning will occur on Tuesday, February 16 for all Fort Bend ISD students.
- February 16 is an "A" Day
- Students will have assignments for periods 1, 2, 3, and 4
- Students should complete and submit the assignment in Schoology for each class period by 11:59 PM on Tuesday in order to be awarded attendance credit (and academic credit)
- Assignments must be completed on TUESDAY ONLY (not Monday, not Wednesday) in order for attendance credit to be awarded to you for Tuesday
LIBRARY UPDATES
Author Kelly Milner Halls will be presenting to all students next week in ELA class. Ms. Halls is the author of many nonfiction books including Voices of Young Heroes (A World War II book), and Death Eaters: Meet Natures Scavengers. Her newest book The Mystery of the Titanic: A Historical Investigation for Kids will be released this spring. Learn more about her on www.wondersofweird.com.
Lots of virtual activities are available in the Schoology library course (ZCT2-DBDB-CDPHQ).

Trip Tuesday: Virtual Field Trips to Mount Vernon, Monticello, and the Lincoln home
Wellness Wednesday: Make music just by moving your body- Body Synth
Think-About-It-Thursday: Black History Culture and Activities (learn about music & dance, the Harlem Hellfighters (WWII), a video game pioneer... and much more!) AND another treat, a Chinese New Year folder filled with lots of information and even a live video!
First Chapter Friday: Dress Coded by Carrie Firestone
Matchbook is expanding this year! We are including a five-day celebration before the virtual competition in April. More details will be announced to your students this week!

Attendance
1. The student is required to attend all classes for every period a class is offered.
2. The student has to respond to roll call when the teacher calls his/her name.
3. The student has to be engaged and participate in class.
4. If the student is having technical issues, missing the classing link, they should email the teacher during the class about the issue.

In an effort to enhance our technology support, Fort Bend ISD has given secondary students (Grades 6 - 12) the ability to report application and hardware incidents using the FBISD Support Portal via 1Link. Students will select Student Application Support or Student Hardware Support to request assistance.
