August 27 - August 31
Why seek out the tried and true, instead of experiences that will stretch you? The passion for stretching yourself and sticking to it, even (or especially) when it’s not going well, is the hallmark of the growth mindset. This is the mindset that allows people to thrive during some of the most challenging times in their lives. – Carol Dweck

WHEW! WE DID IT!
FACULTY MEETING:
Plan to attend a faculty meeting in the cafeteria on Monday after school from 3:15-4:00.
WATER:
Please encourage and facilitate students drinking more water than normal. Encourage students to drink water before dismissal. Our buses do not have AC, and the kids are sitting three to a seat. It's sweltering, and we need to help keep them cool.
ALLERGY TABLES IN CAFETERIA:
We are working to ensure that our new environment is safe for all students. Our current protocol for students with allergies at lunch is as follows: One table will have a "safe spot" for students will allergies. It will be marked appropriately and cleaned with Clorox wipes. Please train all students on the "safe spots." Teachers will also be asked to train all students on the following cafeteria behavior:
- No sharing food
- Keep your food to yourself
- Adults will clean the "safe spots."
- Wash hands after lunch.
- If you have friends that you want to sit with and you know that they are allergic to peanuts, do not bring peanut butter in your lunch. This helps to keep all students safe.
DYSLEXIA TRAINING:
This year the 504 department has added a digital version of the annual dyslexia training/presentation online! It is a requirement for ALL staff to complete this training by the end of the year. I am notifying you now as I have had requests from teachers who want more info on dyslexia and dysgraphia strategies for instruction. I would recommend for these teachers to take a look at this course sooner than later so that they can implement some of these strategies in the classroom with dyslexic students. This training will also help teachers who would like more info on the identification process. Here is the course info: Blend- Annual Dyslexia training for Staff, Course #45151
DAILY SCHEDULES:
Teachers, please send a copy of your daily schedule to the front office as soon as possible. Also, post near your door. Thank you!
STUDENT BADGES:
Please come by the office and pick up your student badge. We are short of badges, so some may have to share with your class/portable buddy until we receive the extra badges. You will sign out for your badge.
STUDENT TEACHERS:
If you have a student teacher, please make sure that they sign in daily at the office.
PLAYGROUND SUPERVISION/CAFETERIA:
Thank you for spreading out on our large play areas to ensure that students are appropriately supervised. Good job! Also, with our very crowded cafeteria, it's critical that you are arrive on time to pick up your students (and count them!). Thanks a bunch!
JOIN THE PTA!
Join the PTA and we can wear jeans everyday! This week the PTA will put a form in your box for PTA membership. You can also join online. Let's get 100% membership as soon as possible so I can wear my new jeans! HOOT HOOT!

LIBRARY NEWS
I will be scheduling orientations beginning the end of next week. I will reach out to teachers to schedule these and will begin with 5th grade and will work my way down. I have a rough schedule for anyone who wants to come by and take a peek, but am not ready to share with campus as a whole just yet.
Newbies- I'd like to visit with all of you if I haven't already. Let me know if you have any questions now and I'll make time for all of you to learn about access points, databases, and fun opportunities in the library!
COMPUTER LAB
The computer lab will NOT be open for students the week of 8/27. The combination of new teacher laptops (yeah!) working with our old equipment (projectors, printers, etc.) is taking more time than I anticipated. Thus, Tuesday, 9/4 will be the first day the lab will be open for classes.
Distributing the student computer devices (Chromebooks and Samsung tablets) is going slow because of trouble shooting projector and printer problems. Distribution should be completed in the next few days.
There are some issues with Living Tree setting up classrooms but they should be using TEAMS to set up your kids in your room. Please contact James if it is not setup properly by 8/24.
It will be the week after Labor day before I start setting up the Doss funded software programs for our students (Accelerated Reading, Imagine Math, Moby Max, etc). It usually takes 2-3 weeks after school starts for AISD to set up the programs they provide (iSation, myOn, Mackinvia, Learning.com, etc.). I will send out email updates when each of these programs is available.
Tech tip - If you are having problems with your Mac automatically connecting to the wifi at school here are two ideas. 1) Open Network in your System Preferences and under Advanced... you can change the order that your Mac looks for wifi connections. Drag and drop education to the top of the list so it will look for it first (thanks Neil!). 2) Go to the apple, press log out and then log back in. This is faster than restarting your system (thanks Brandon!).
