Butler says he owes his close relationship to God to his mother, who has always had an unshakable faith in the lord, no matter the situation. The Lord works in mysterious ways, Butler says, because life has not always been as easy as it is for him now. There were trials and tribulations Butler had to face throughout various junctures in his life that truly tested him physically, mentally, and spiritually. Dawayne D Butler: Temple High School
Dawayne D Butler did not have a long education, but says he still learned more than most do in a life time. Butler says that though he never received a degree in higher learning, he took a more traditionalist approach to education, preferring to learn with hands-on experience what life had to offer, instead of simply reading about it on a piece of paper. The education Butler did receive however, was a pivotal part of his cultivation as a man. Butler says that his time in high school was, as it is for many, a transitioning period in his life, one that would define who he would become, and the path his life would take him down. Butler attended high school at Temple High School in central Texas. Temple High School's mission, as the website itself puts it, is “Temple embraces a diverse population. Temple emphasizes positive discipline in the classroom, parent involvement, and a creative instructional process designed to meet individual staff and student needs. As a fiscally conservative district, Temple has been able to address decreases in state revenue without laying off staff or cutting vital programs.”
Dawayne D Butler says that the philosophies of Temple High School had a profound effect on him as a child, and he still holds true to the set of standards they instilled in him today. Temple High School helped Butler get a bigger sense of the world, and his place in it, as well as developing his culturally and helping to weave a strong ethical and moral fiber. Butler says that this same moral fiber that the school preached would prevent Butler from taking many of the darker paths that were laid out before him in life, and taught him the value of honesty and integrity.

The main reasons this career is so dangerous though is due to the environmental surroundings that come with the job. The waters that crabbers fish in are not only rough and choppy, but they are also freezing, which leaves little room for mistake if someone falls overboard. In addition to the frozen waters, the weather in the area is extremely hard to predict and is subject to sudden, violent changes. This can make the fishing nearly impossible because the safety of the crew is more important.

Dawayne D Butler - What You Need to Know About Alaskan King Crab Fishing
Dawayne D Butler is an experienced crab fisherman who has been in the business of catching crabs for several years. He served with the United States Army Rangers and was honorably discharged in 1987, and since then he has been involved in the crab fishing business.
Dawayne D Butler has worked with several fishing boats and has experience in catching the Alaskan king crab. Fishing for the Alaskan king crab normally takes place during the fall months off the coast of the Aleutian Island and Alaska. The commercial harvest season is a very short time when crab fishing boats are allowed to go fishing. Apart from Alaska and the Aleutian Islands, a large number of crabs are caught in Russian and international waters which are shipped worldwide. Alaskan crab fishing is extremely dangerous and has a high fatality rate among the fishermen. On average, one fisherman dies weekly during the crab fishing season.
Types of King Crab
There are three types of King crabs commercially available in Alaska:
- Red king crab found in Norton Sound, Kodiak, and Bristol Bay.
- Blue king crab found in the Pribilof Islands, and St. Matthew Island.
- Golden king crab found in the Aleutian Islands.
Of all the three varieties of crabs caught in Alaska, the meat of the red king crab is the most valuable. There is, however, a fourth variety of crab, the scarlet king crab which is quite rare. Its meat is said to be sweet and tasty. King crab fishing is a highly regulated industry with specific size requirements that need to be met, and fishing is only allowed at certain times of the year.

Dawayne D Butler - The Lucrative King Crab Fishing Industry in Danger
For several years, the waters around Alaska have been a fertile area for crab fishing industries, but in the last couple of years what proved to be a fertile sea could soon prove to be the industry’s undoing. According to research, the red king crab from the Bristol Bay area, the one species of crab that symbolizes the fortune of the Alaskan crab fishing industry, could fall victim to the ocean’s changing chemistry. According to the report, scientists fear that in the next couple of decades due to the changing sea conditions, the $100 million red crab fishing industry could crash. Robert Foy said, “With red king crab, it’s all doom and gloom.” He was the overseer for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric administration (NOAA) in Kodiak, Alaska.
Other regulations set in place in 2005, stipulated how many crabs can be caught during the fishing season based on the number of crabs caught during the previous years. Dawayne D Butler has been fishing for crabs since 1987 and knows the implications that come with a decline in the number of crabs due to the changing conditions of the sea.

In fact, every member should be allowed time to speak up and participate together with the other team members.

Most churches will have a couple of community-related projects going on where you can become a volunteer. Many community-related programs focus on the youth and sports. This is one of the best ways to get the young people off the streets and involved in some sporting activity. If you are a sportsperson, this could be a good way to help train the young people in your community.
Dawayne D Butler has been involved with the community through his church. He believes that working with the community is one way you can give back to the less fortunate. He enjoys working together with other fellow-Christians from his church in making the community a better place to live in.

Dawayne D. Butler - When a Child Has to Grow Up Fast
According to some studies, growing up without a father can actually alter you brain’s chemistry. It is also known that children who grow up in a family without a father will have a higher chance of developing conditions like ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) or ODD (oppositional defiant disorder). Another aspect is that a child will likely be curious about the reasons why their father left, which can lead to self-deprecation or even depression. Faulting yourself for something you did not do.
The fact that a young child is not necessarily ready for the responsibility is just one aspect of these stories, the other one, the lack of emotional experience is much more important. Dawayne D. Butler was lucky enough to grow up with a considerate mother, who tried to ease him into this grownup role, but there are others out there who are not nearly as lucky. For them, growing up too quickly often means having to deal with other emotional issues, which is not an easy thing to do.
Dawayne D. Butler - Being a Team Player
Dawayne D. Butler notes that when your very decisions can lead to tragedies, you have no other choice but to become a team player, and do it fast. Fishing boats are hazardous environments where you have to pay attention to a lot of things, often simultaneously. One bad move and you or somebody else can pay for your negligence with their life.
Being a team player means different things to different people, but mostly it is about swallowing your ego. When you are willing to put your needs aside for the betterment of multiple individuals, you become a team player, and when they do the same thing for you later, you realize that being a team player is good for everybody.
When you did not sleep too well but still help out another deckhand, you make the whole team stronger. And that can be as true in an office, as it is on a fishing boat. Your team can consist of your colleagues, friends or your family members, but the process is ultimately similar. No individual is more important than the team. There can be clear roles with leaders and followers, but individuals can never be more important than the team.
Dawayne D Butler notes that he had to make these sacrifices numerous times during his career, but it almost always worth it. In his opinion, when everybody is willing to do the same thing, a group of people can come together very quickly, to share a bond which could very well last for a lifetime.
Dawayne D. Butler - The Role of the Church
He enjoyed the whole experience, but especially the fact that the whole family – with the exception of his father – was there; his smaller brothers and beloved mother. The latter took on the full responsibility of bringing up her children and did so with the help of her oldest son, Dawayne D. Butler. The role of the Church is something that’s often debated, but for those who have a strong belief system it’s a place of understanding and peacefulness.
The Church allows people to see Christ as he reveals the almighty himself in human flash. As the House of God, it also acts as an extended family where people with similar values can meet and share their experiences, while lamenting on the importance of their fate. It’s a place of encouragement where you can absolutely find your calling.
For Dawayne D. Butler, the church was extremely important growing up, showing him a side of the world and faith in which he could trust. While he was abandoned by his father early, it was because of the church that he learned the importance of forgiveness, becoming strong enough to finally let go of the past.
Dawayne D. Butler – The Intricacies of Crabbing
While there are unfortunate accidents where there is nothing anybody can do, most deaths would be preventable. The catching process happens with the help of extremely heavy steel traps.
These traps can be north of 700 pounds, making them extremely dangerous, especially when the ship is moving around quite a bit. For the catch to be legal, male king crabs measured less than 6.5 inches have to be put back into the sea, along with the young and female crabs. The vast majority of accidents (about 80%) results from falling into the water, which is of course extremely dangerous for various reasons. The first one is the landing. The crew member can hit their head or suffer a shock which makes the rescue process much harder.
The other problem is the extremely cold water. Depending on one’s physical condition and mental disposition, hypothermia can occur very quickly, often in a matter of minutes. Once that happens, the chances for survival dramatically decrease. Dawayne D. Butler completed several seasons as a deckhand, spending some time on the Liliana Crabber Catcher boats, learning firsthand about the dangers of crabbing.
Dawayne D. Butler - The Climate and the Landscape of Alaska
When it comes to the weather in Alaska, you should always be prepared and expect the unexpected. The weather stations in both the United States and Canada have plenty of records and numbers about the weather in Alaska. You can read about averages, median temperatures, and other statistical figures that most likely won’t be helpful to you at all in Alaska.
Generally speaking, summers are gorgeous and mild. Temperatures stay within the fifty to eighty degrees Fahrenheit range, usually lower than higher. It can start raining any time. If you are high in the mountains, snow storms do happen, even in June and July.
The reason for such unpredictability is that the mountains cool off very quickly. Because there are a lot of large mountains and ranges, it creates unique and unpredictable weather patterns.
You can discover scenarios when people on one side of a mountain are preparing for a long, big flood while those who live on the other side of the mountain are experiencing a drought.
Because the state is so close to the North Pole, summer days are very long. For example, Fairbanks has over twenty hours of daylight during the summer days. The Sun is close compared to the contiguous states, which is why it is also really easy to get sunburns in Alaska, especially on your face and on your head. Nights tend to be very cool, even in the summer.
If you want to visit Alaska during the summer months, make sure to bring a jacket and a few sweaters. The weather can change very quickly, notes Dawayne D. Butler, which is why you want to be able to put on several layers of clothing instead of bringing one big, warm, bulky jacket with you.
Dawayne D. Butler - The Glaciers of Alaska
While you may get overwhelmed by the forest and the ocean or grow tired waiting for a grizzly bear to pass nearby, one of the other great attractions of Alaska is always available for sightseeing and enjoyment. This attraction is the Alaska glaciers. There are hundreds of them in Alaska, ranging from very small to huge Matanuska Icefields, whose area is bigger than the entire state of Rhode Island.
To put things in a simple way, glaciers are big amounts of old snow. When new snow falls on top of old snow, it compressed the latter. New layers keep forming all the time. During this process the snow starts to change. New crystals of snow squeeze the air out and reach a point of almost melting. The snow turns into ice, yet doesn’t melt, and layers of ice become thicker and thicker with time.
A lot of glaciers that you can see in Alaska today formed between two million years ago and fourteen thousand years ago.
Glaciers are not static. They are similar to frozen rivers, which do move, even when they look static to the human eye.
Most of glaciers in Alaska are retreating due to global warming. Glaciers movements are very complicated. They depend on a number of factors that include weather conditions, elevation, slope, and thickness of ice. Dawayne D Butler says that sometimes a part of a glacier will move faster than the other parts, creating a layer of ice that is known as a kinematic wave.
Dawayne D. Butler - How to Watch Animals in Alaska and Stay Safe
Alaska is a great place if you enjoy watching the wildlife. You see grizzly bears, black bears, deer, elk, and other animals while driving your car on the highway.
There are several rules you want to follow to stay safe when watching wildlife.
The first rule is very simple: stay in your car. Do not leave your car to follow an animal. When you stay in your car, the animal will not decide that you are food. If you decide to get on foot, an animal will think that you just joined the wildlife and the food chain. In a lot of cases, especially with wolves and bears, you are much lower on the food chain compared to where you think you are if you live in a city or a large metro area. Even if the animal doesn’t decide that you are food, you may trigger its defense mechanism. In Alaska, people get attacked by moose every year.
The second reason why you want to stay in your car has to do with the animal running away. The noise of an opening door may scare the animal and it will run. Hassling wildlife is also illegal in Alaska. When you follow an animal, you may be forcing it to get away from its food source or its young, therefore endangering its life.
When you see an animal that you’d like to watch, slow down and stop on the side of the road. Next, shut off your engine. Make no sudden sounds or moves. If you are really quiet, the animal will probably take a quick look at you and go back to its business, explains Dawayne D. Butler, leaving you with plenty of opportunity to watch and take photos.
Dawayne D. Butler - What You Need to Know About the Alaskan Bears
There are two types of bears you will encounter in Alaska: black bears and grizzly bears.
Grizzlies, or brown bears, are much rarer than black bears. They are also significantly bigger. Your chances of spotting a grizzly bear while you are driving on the highway are minimal.
However, there are quite a few brown bears inside of the Denali Park, on Kodiak Island and Admiralty Island.
Grizzly bears are seven to nine feet long. Males weigh from 400 to 1,100 pounds. Females are about 80% of male weight and height. Grizzlies live for about twenty years.
They may look clumsy, but in real life they are faster and bigger than you think. Watching a grizzly bear catch and eat fish is an experience you will never forget.
Some roadside stores in Alaska have t-shirts with grizzly paws in actual size and a caption that says, “Actual Size” because the size is, indeed, actual.
Black bears are much more common than their bigger relatives, the grizzlies. You are almost guaranteed to see one or a few of them close to the highway. Black bears are four to five feet long and their weight varies between 135 and 400 pounds. You can easily mistake a really big black bear for a grizzly, because their color and size can be very similar. Dawayne D. Butler says that their lifespan is also similar to that of the brown bears.

Spokane has its frigid moments, but when it comes to oppressive winter conditions, Washington cannot compare with the state of Alaska. Dawayne D. Butler is an individual who has spent a great deal of time in Alaska, because he works in the commercial fishing and crabbing industry. He is a deckhand, and he has to deal with the severe weather at times on the waterways of Alaska. In fact, he has worked for Alaska Trawl Fisheries, Inc. on the Bering Sea.
When you think about this type of work, you may understand the fact that it is time and labor-intensive. However, many people think that commercial fishing in Alaska is only done in the summer, but this is not the case. There is some commercial fishing done during other times of year. Plus, early and late summer mornings in some parts of Alaska are not necessarily going to be balmy by any stretch of the imagination. Dawayne D. Butler is willing brave the elements, and this is one of the reasons why he has been able to succeed as a deckhand.

People who have experience working on fishing boat crews have seen it all, so they are invaluable employees. Dawayne D. Butler is one of these seasoned veterans, and he continues to build on his experience every time he boards a fishing vessel.
